About the team

ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) regulations and standards are rapidly emerging across the globe and imposing new and complex reporting requirements which impact Swiss Re. Our team together with you are responsible for shaping and building the Sustainability Reporting platform encompassing all technology and data capabilities which allow for efficient end-to-end data flows and reporting, on a global as well as on local legal entity level to ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Our main customers are the group and local sustainability reporting teams as well as the broader sustainability community within the company.

We are looking for a highly engaged and experienced, pro-active, and curious Lead Data Engineer who wants to take a meaningful role supporting our team.

About the role

-Developing Applications & Data Pipelines: Overseeing and developing scalable and efficient data pipelines and applications to ensure seamless data flow, integrity, and accessibility.
-Leading Engineering professionals: Guide the data engineering team and set strategic directions for data management, processing, and utilization, and support the team in the execution.
-Integrating DevOps Practices: Integrating DevOps methodologies into data engineering workflows to enhance automation, continuous integration, and continuous deployment as well as ensuring high quality code.
-Architecture & Design: Overseeing the overall architecture and design of the product and making decisions regarding technologies, frameworks, and design patterns in line with enterprise architecture.
-Collaborating Across Teams: Work closely with product owner, developers, business analysts, architects and IT operations across different teams, business units and functions.
-Mentoring & Team Development: Mentor team members, promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement, and maintain a cohesive team capable of addressing complex data and operational challenges.


These responsibilities position you as a key player in our team by strategically utilizing sustainability data while ensuring that the processes and infrastructure that support these efforts are robust, efficient, and future-oriented.

Candidates with education suit the position

University education (Bachelor's degree)
University education (Master's degree)
Postgraduate (Doctorate)

Language skills

English - Upper intermediate (B2)

Personality requirements and skills

About you

-Relevant university degree with in-depth knowledge and several years of experience in computer science, data engineering, data science and/or related field.
-Proficient in designing and implementing data pipelines and analytical / reporting solutions on enterprise data platforms (Palantir Foundry is a plus) and distributed computing (PySpark).
-Experience in integrating DevOps and release management practices (DevOps and CI/CD)
-Proficient in data architecture design (incl. roadmap definition) and data modelling.
-Experience leading technical teams and/or initiatives, track record of successful deliveries.
