Job description, responsibilities and duties

About the role
As Data Protection Officer you will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring data protection compliance for Swiss Re Group Functions with a major internal client focus in supporting the Group's Information Technology Strategy and Operations.

Main responsibilities:
• Applies Swiss Re's established data protection compliance framework within Swiss Re's Group Functions with specific focus on processes within the Group IT Function
• Supports the Global Data Protection Officer, Legal Counsel, Compliance Officers, as well as IT and Cloud Governance Teams to manage Swiss Re's data protection risk exposure
• Assesses data protection compliance risks across Swiss Re's Group Functions and provides effective guidance on risk mitigating measures
• Supports established incident response and data breach notification procedures as required by respective legal and regulatory provisions that is in line with Swiss Re Group policies, standards and procedures
• Coordinates and provides guidance, assurance, training, communication and monitoring of the data protection control environment within Swiss Re's Group Functions and in particular with Group IT

About the team
The Data Protection team is part of Legal & Compliance and consists of Data Protection Officers with many years of experience and diverse backgrounds in Legal, Compliance, Audit, Regulator, and Computer Science roles. We cover data protection risks in the team globally within Swiss Re. Every Data Protection Officer has an internal business client focus as well as a regional expertise area. Due to the nature of the role, developments on the technology front and with new regulations on the horizon, you will find a very agile, fast pace environment with a strong focus on supporting our internal clients to make the right risk decisions and manage data protection compiance risks adequately.

University education (Bachelor's degree)
University education (Master's degree)
Postgraduate (Doctorate)

Language skills

English - Upper intermediate (B2)

About you


• Minimum of 5 years professional experience on data protection compliance with a compliance, IT audit, IT governance or legal background
• Good knowledge of data protection compliance and related requirements for information technology, digitalization, cloud computing and new technologies in the context of big data and smart analytics
• Ability to analyse data processing activities, IT architectures and cloud computing solutions to make effective recommendations that support the business and IT globally
• Good "translator" of legal requirements into technical control language
• Good organizational talent and motivation to maintain good quality documentation
• CIPP or similar data protection or IT auditor qualifications highly desirable
• Good understanding of project management an advantage
• Gravitas and great influencing skills
• High level of independence and integrity
• Solid English writing, presentation and communication skills
