Job Description

As a German teacher you will aspire to the highest standards of professionalism and will, in particular:  
 
  • Promote the ‘mission’ and philosophy of the school ensuring that children are working towards being truly bilingual, international citizens.
  • Ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment, and reporting are of the highest quality and meet the varying learning and social needs of students.
  • Be flexible and adjust to the needs of the school, actively contributing to the school development plans and growth.
  • Demonstrate thorough curriculum knowledge, teach, and assess effectively.
  • Primary German Year 3 - 6 follow Key Stage 2 of the English National Curriculum (ENC). Assessment at KS2 is criterion-related using the BISB (NAE) 4-point scale, with progress targeted and tracked at regular intervals.
  • Years 7 to 9 follow Key Stage 3 of the English National Curriculum (ENC). Assessment at KS3 is criterion-related using the BISB (NAE) 4-point scale, with progress targeted and tracked at regular intervals.
  • Years 10 and 11 prepare for the IGCSE German Foreign Language (0525) as offered by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
  • Years 12 and 13 prepare for the IB German  Ab Initio  SL/ German B SL.
  • Use the student tracking and monitoring process to advance student learning and enhance professional practice in line with the school’s aspirations and priorities.
  • Take personal responsibility for professional development.
  • Effectively communicate the school’s narrative, being an ambassador for our school at all times.

Job Responsibilities

Required Skills/Abilities

Qualification/Training:
  • Degree level qualification or higher in German language teaching plus PGCE/QTS – Essential
 
Experience:
  • Minimum of two years' teaching experience in German language – Essential
  • Experience teaching the UK National Curriculum – Desirable
  • Experience teaching IB and IGCSE German – Desirable
  • Proficiency in classroom management and interpersonal skills – Essential
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and adapt curriculum to engage students and facilitate their academic growth – Essential
  • Collaboration with parents – Essential
 
Skills:
  • German language proficiency at C2 level, English proficiency at B2 level
  • Strong oral and written communication skills – Essential
  • Ability to teach across various age groups and English proficiency levels – Essential
  • Skill in engaging students and fostering high performance – Essential
  • Familiarity with ISAMS – Desirable
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development – Desirable
  • Comfort with global citizenship or willingness to embrace it – Desirable
  • Understanding of the international school community's complex dynamics – Desirable
 
Other:
  • Ability to integrate technology into classroom instruction to enhance student learning
  • Proficiency in teaching with technology in virtual or hybrid settings
  • Competency with Microsoft Office 365 for report generation, data analysis, and resource preparation
  • Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, and communication skills for interaction with diverse nationalities and cultures
