Job description, responsibilities and duties

Is Data analytics your passion? Are you fresh out of the university? We invite you to apply for a rare opportunity to join a Digital Talent Program. Over an 18-month period, you will receive on-the-job training in your role and opportunities to rotate on projects in our main locations Bratislava, Zurich, London and New York.

We need you to have a young mind-set, strong interpersonal and technical skills and that you are eager to broaden your knowledge and expertise. Your background shall be PhD or Master degree in computer science/engineering, mathematics, statistics, physics or any other computationally intense disciplines. Ideally, you posses 0-3 years of professional experience in at least one of the following domains: data & text mining, machine learning and information visualisation.

In particular, this will involve:
• Generating business insights using Data Analytics and information visualisation methods to answer business problems
• Developing business solutions to exploit Analytics in order to move towards data centric innovation in alignment with business priorities and key targets
• Driving product and service enhancements to improve business value and service quality according to business needs and industry best practices

• Apply analytical methods and algorithms to build data products that streamline the process from data collection to insight generation
• Foster new data-driven approaches to generate business insight in order to address unanswered business problems in a proactive way
• Validate, interpret and present data findings to both an expert and non-expert audience
• Assess analytics scenarios by means of functional prototypes or pilot solutions
• Ensure further development of Swiss Re's analytics capabilities in interplay with system engineers, solution architects and internal business experts

Personality requirements and skills

Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline: e.g., computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, physics, operational research, engineering including 0-3 years of experience in analytics (machine learning, statistics, data mining)

• Strong analytical & conceptual skills to understand key business needs and design tailored solutions to solve specific business problems
• Ability to communicate complex analysis results in a clear, precise and actionable manner
• Proficiency in at least two of the following programming languages: Python, Java or C++
• Fluency in relational databases/SQL
• Knowledge in the area of large data sets and Hadoop ecosystems (Spark) and HDFS or similar
• Basic abilities in DevOps (Bash, Unix)
• Eager to try out new technologies
• Excellent verbal and written English skills, ideally multi-lingual
• Flexibility to travel, also on short notice
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and multi-cultural environment, "can do" attitude
• High degree of flexibility, independent and proactive working style
