Job description, responsibilities and duties

The Accounting & Closing P&C team is responsible for the quarterly financial closing for external US GAAP and Statutory reporting for our reinsurance entities in Europe. The core mandate is the closing of the technical P&C sub ledgers for all relevant valuations. The team also contributes to the preparation of the quarterly EVM (Economic Value Management) reporting.

We are now looking for Accountants interested in our core business activities (P&C and L&H reinsurance) with an affinity to systems (BIS, LFD, RIC) and processes in a controlled environment. Your primary responsibility is to support the team in the quarterly closing activities for US GAAP and Statutory with a focus on producing reconciliations between the different valuation layers and on executing all relevant controls to ensure accuracy of balance sheet and P&L (profit & loss statement). As part of the P&C Accounting & Closing team mainly located in Zurich you will be also be involved in ad hoc tasks and P&C improvement initiatives.

Key Business Responsibilities
- Production of quarterly reconciliations (US GAAP, Statutory GAAP and EVM)
- Support supply of complete, accurate & timely underlying non-life data to the various databases / frameworks for the relevant Finance teams in Europe and Asia
- Support delivery of non-life data sets to Group reporting compliant with FSA accounting standards, i.e. USGAAP
- Support delivery on non-life data sets to Carrier responsible, compliant with local statutory GAAP
- Maintain control environment by performing checks, investigating and cleaning up data as required
- Ensure that the necessary systems/ tools & data are available to support the deliverables of the Unit
- Act as contact for any process or control related inquiries for different valuations and for different stakeholders including internal and external audit

Requirements for the employee

Candidates with education suit the position

University education (Bachelor's degree)
University education (Master's degree)

Language skills

English - Upper intermediate (B2)

Personality requirements and skills

- University of Applied Science or university graduate with a primary degree in Finance/Commerce
- Minimum 3 years Finance or Accounting experience
- Insurance or Reinsurance knowledge an advantage
- Self-motivated and proven track record of working independently
- Knowledge of US GAAP desirable
- Strong process & control orientation to enable delivery of quality output with tight deadlines
- Willingness to develop an understanding of Swiss Re systems architecture for non-life business across all valuations – knowledge of BIS, LFD, RIC and SICSnt an advantage
- Strong computer skills – Lotus Notes/Word/Excel/SQL/Access/Pivot tables
- Open and trustful communication
- Good interpersonal and analytical skills, team player
- Fluent in English, German language skills are a plus
