Job description, responsibilities and duties

The role oversees the delivery of accounting activities within Finance and from its service providers, monitors execution of financial controls and ensures compliance with local and group accounting and reporting requirements.

Core responsibilities include:
- Accounting for assigned entities in the area of Non-Technical Accounting (Financial Accounting excluding Reinsurance and Investments)
- Contact for internal and external auditors
- Contribution to strategic projects

Besides the overall responsibility for the accounting and reporting of non-reinsurance activities of our regulated European and South African Carriers, the Team Leader Non-Technical Accounting Lux & SA carriers is also expected to closely coordinate his or her own initiatives with the respective Carrier Team in Finance Reinsurance EMEA as well as service providers and stakeholders.
The position acts with a high degree of autonomy & discretion within the delegated authority.

Main tasks/ Activities:
- Oversight and development of team of accounting experts
- Implementation of accounting, closing and reporting activities in line with the global framework for Non-Technical Accounting
- Coordination, calculation and accounting for fixed assets, accruals and other Non-Technical Accounting relevant topics
- Inter-company recharging bookings and ensuring alignment with respective SLA
- Closing and reporting of defined entities according to relevant account principles
- Management and mitigation of financial reporting risks, through Account Reconciliation, Balance Sheet Substantiation and other appropriate measures
- Coordination with internal and external auditors to conduct, review and respond to audit activities
- Submission, analysis and segmentation of cost data
- Quality and risk- management activities to ensure proper levels of internal control
- Operational compliance with local and group policies
- Contact for assigned Carrier teams
- Provide local and legal entity input for large projects and system development

Stakeholders and Customers:
Communicates effectively with stakeholders and partners to ensure common goals and expectations. The main stakeholders are the Finance Reinsurance EMEA carrier teams, Internal and External Audit, Cost Controlling, Standards and Governance teams, Branch Managers and local Management.

Leadership and Management:
- Oversees team of accounting experts and manages activities related to financial closing and reporting
- Recruits and develops the resources necessary to deliver core responsibilities
- Assigns work and manages individual and team performance
- Provides leadership and effective management in all areas of staffing and personnel administration

Personality requirements and skills

- 5+ years in Finance / Accounting / Controlling
- Sound knowledge of the main business activities, financial systems, the respective control environment and regulatory limitations
- Master degree in business administration, Accounting Qualification and/or CPA or equivalent is preferred
- Strong knowledge of accounting and reporting standards i.e. US GAAP, IFRS is a plus
- Analytical skills with the ability to deliver quality output on short deadlines and manage details without losing sight of the big picture
- Ability to work on own initiative, in a target-oriented environment
- Manages multiple priorities and competing demands. Acts resourcefully to ensure that work is completed within specified time and quality targets
- Analytical and methodical work-style combined with good business judgment and high-quality output
- Organizes, structures and leads through discussions in an effective people and goal oriented way
- Strong customer focus. Proven relationship and team builder
- Fluent in English, any other European language is a plus
