Job description, responsibilities and duties

The role of the Senior Database Administrator is to provide expert knowledge and guidance to the database administration team within Cloud Operations. In this role, you join a team of highly skilled database and Automation Engineers responsible for the end-to-end ownership and automated delivery of public cloud services.

The senior Database Engineer will be responsible for enabling and maximizing our ability to exploit cloud databases for business benefits through Infrastructure as Code, while ensuring customer satisfaction and cost-effectiveness, operational integrity, and adherence to relevant industry best practices. You will be provided with guidance and training to facilitate your development within this role.

This role requires occasional travel (within Europe typically).

As Senior Database Administrator, your main responsibilities will involve:

Provide guidance to the Cloud Operations team and customers on best practice database Operations in public cloud
Focus on the delivery of cloud-related database services and products to internal customers
Provide end-to-end database support for cloud services through monitoring, incident response, and incident resolution for the Public and Private Cloud Platform environments
Monitor the databases to ensure availability, reliability, security, and performance, responding to incidents and escalating them to the appropriate teams
Participate in a root cause analysis on incidents, continually seek to improve the stability of the environment for all customers.
Seek to use automation to remove repetitive tasks, developing Runbooks and Playbooks for use across the organization.
Act as an expert in database operations in cloud environments, using that expertise to support development teams in taking on more database operations responsibilities and driving DevOps practices to enable the company to efficiently scale cloud database workloads.

As Senior Database Administrator, your skills and experience will ideally include:

Basic qualification:

5-8 years’ experience as a database administrator
Experience with one or more database engines such as MS SQL, Oracle, DB2, PostgreSQL, and Aurora.
Experience in managing public cloud databases in a large-scale enterprise environment.
Experience of working with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform.
Relevant degree or diploma program of study.
Experience of working to DevOps principles and in an Agile environment.
Troubleshooting experience in virtual/ cloud databases.
Proven experience of working within supplier-led service delivery models
Proven ability to succeed in collaborative work environments using Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Preferred qualification:

Industry Certification in one or more database engines such as MS SQL, Oracle, DB2, PostgreSQL, and Aurora.
Knowledge of AWS RDS with associated certifications.
Proficient in the automation of repeatable tasks using appropriate scripting.
Experience in automated testing supporting operational readiness checks.
Experience of running production relational database services in public Cloud
