Job description, responsibilities and duties

In this role based in Bratislava at Group Economic Research and Strategy, you will actively contribute to data analytics and research projects around the impact of a variety of macroeconomic indicators on re/insurance market on a regional and global level. The role is an excellent stepping-stone to learn more about industrial research and also exposure to knowledge around re/insurance markets. You should expect a dynamic environment and be able to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and autonomy in your daily work.


Key tasks and responsibilities include:

Work with various experienced macro and insurance analysts/economists within the team on global/regional economic and insurance trends and research projects.

This includes 1) closely assessing economic variables (GDP, inflation, interest rates, etc), 2) supporting quantitative modelling/estimation, 3) data gathering and cleaning as well as database administration, 4) project management activities and written contributions to our research reports

Conduct literature and data review dedicated to various research projects

Support Swiss Re's thought-leadership topics and client outreach by preparing high-quality and visually appealing presentations and supporting work on publications, incl. compiling and formatting data from our own sigma database and other data sources

Support Group Chief Economist in various tasks (e.g. writing background notes, designing slides, some administrative tasks, etc)



About the Team

Group Economic Research and Strategy (GERS) is part of the Swiss Re Institute, and is responsible for analysing and forecasting the global macroeconomic and insurance market environment. GERS holds a crucial role in steering Swiss Re's capital allocation for both sides of the balance sheet. The team also drives thought leadership on topics of strategic importance and is responsible for Swiss Re's flagship Sigma publication series, including on resilience and the economic impact of climate change.

The team is located across geographies, is highly visible and interacts with a wide variety of key partners and decision makers across Swiss Re and externally.

Requirements for the employee

Candidates with education suit the position

University education (Bachelor's degree)
University education (Master's degree)
Postgraduate (Doctorate)

Language skills

English - Upper intermediate (B2)

Personality requirements and skills

- Completed university degree in Economics or Finance. A degree from another field, for example on data science is also possible, though excellent working knowledge of Economics/Finance is expected
- Ability to break down, communicate and visualize often complex concepts in an easy and digestible way.
- Both written and verbal communication skills are excellent in English, other languages a plus
- Strong analytical skills and ability to focus on details without losing track of the bigger picture
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is required
- Econometric and programming skills in one of the major statistical software/programming languages (R, Stata, Matlab, Python) is a distinct advantage
- Highly motivated with a can-do attitude; dedication to continuous learning and willingness to challenge and improve the status quo
- Very agile, open-minded and curious personality with ability to work under tight timelines
- Mature and proactive; showing a high degree of own initiative
- Strong interest in/motivation to learn about insurance/reinsurance
- Ability and enthusiasm to work in a global and multicultural environment
