About the Team

You will be part of the Stargate Center of Expertise (CoE) which is part of the recently established Group Data Services (GDS) organization.

The Stargate CoE consists of a team of enthusiastic data strategists, data engineers, architects and platform specialists dedicated to realizing the full potential of Swiss Re's data. We engage with all parts of the company, enabling them to formulate and execute data ambitions, to develop group-wide data assets and to provide data-driven products and services to our clients.

About the Role

Working in the Group Data Services (GDS) you will be the engineering lead and go to person for managing Stargate, a state of the art data platform at Swiss Re.

You and the team you will lead, will be responsible for:
- Leading the team of platform engineers, and driving together with the team the daily platform operations and enhancements
- Maintain the architecture for the infrastructure integration between Stargate and source systems: Swiss Re IT systems and external providers
- Managing the platform availability, monitoring the infrastructure as well as the performance of the platform and the hosted solutions
- Managing the platform access model and access operations
- Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with Stargate internal clients, stakeholders and power-user communities embedded in the business across Swiss Re
- Collaborating closely with Stargate core team and the platform vendor Palantir to plan and deploy platform enhancements and features
- Networking with data experts across Swiss Re to expand and use big data technologies across the firm
- Overseeing and coordinating customer support and document relevant topics in knowledge bases and guidelines
- Identifying areas of further automation to increase operational efficiency by leveraging platform operational data and operational analytics
- Designing architectural blueprints, developing flexible integration patterns and promoting them throughout Swiss Re
- Consulting and evangelizing best practices and patterns for implementation of Stargate analytics projects

Requirements for the employee

Language skills

English - Upper intermediate (B2)

Personality requirements and skills

- University degree (or similar) in Computer Science, Data Science, Math, Statistics or Engineering
- Familiarity with data structures, algorithms, storage systems, cloud infrastructure
- In depth skills on various technologies needed for data science and data engineering
- Proficiency with programming languages such as Python/PySpark, R, Java, SQL or similar
- In-depth knowledge of distributed computing frameworks/Spark
- Knowledge about frontend development frameworks is a plus
- Knowledge of Palantir Foundry platform is a great plus
- Ability to work effectively in teams with both technical and non-technical individuals in a rapidly changing environment with dynamic objectives
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and results in a clear and precise manner to non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- English fluent is a requirement, German or any other language is a plus
- Experience in insurance/reinsurance or financial industry is a plus
