Job description, responsibilities and duties

Are you an energetic leader, dedicated to work across one Value Stream with multiple product backlogs with budget responsibility? As a Product/Technical Area Lead for the Database Services Product Area in Group Technology Services (GTS) you will have shared commercial and technical accountability with other Product/Technical Area Leads and will support them and C-Level. We're looking for a senior technology leader with a hands-on approach to coaching and guiding technologists to deliver solutions along strategic directions.

We believe in a joint leadership model. Together with your colleagues, the Product Owners, Scrum Masters and Architects as a team will resolve priority challenges and ensure that technology can support the organization's goal. You will align technology strategy with fellow Product/Tech Area Leads to improve technology investments and decide where experimentation is warranted to innovate and drive practices and technology forward.

Your main responsibilities:
- A technical leader with extensive experience, supporting a Product Area on aligning to Technology Strategy goals.
- To set overall vision to direct, inform and prioritize the order of work​ to maximize value within constraints of resource, strategy and compliance​ with an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Communicate with members of the squads through clear principles, common design patterns and industry standard practice.
- To incubate and commercialize innovative, disruptive solutions​, using data and validation techniques incl. demo, usability testing, A/B testing to prove hypothesis
- Looks to increase flow of work through the Product Area using Engineering techniques (CI/CD, DevOps, TDD, BDD etc.).
- Co-create, prioritize and communicate product roadmaps and high-level squad backlogs using iterative techniques with feedback loops.
- Mentors the Product Area and drives collaboration and knowledge sharing to benefit your area and the broader organization.
- Works with Chapter Leads, CTO, CDO and HR to develop the technical capability plans for the future.
- Communicate financial forecasts with business case creation identifying market segmentation and bring clarity on the value proposition.
- To balance & manage technical debt in line with customer value work and to deliver the squad mission and objectives with shared accountability with the Tribe Product Owner​.
- To ensure voice of the customer is heard and focused on by squad​.
- To ensure cooperation between squads and manage interdependencies​ and remove impediments and create an environment for people to excel.
- To support the squad to deliver on budget, to clear scope, with clear guidance on timelines ​with clear acceptance criteria.

About the Team

The Database Services team optimizes Cloud offerings and create automation around life-cycle events. Core focus is to ensure compliance with governance/security controls and support different deployment models to increase cost efficiency.

We aim to achieve this mission by providing:
- Dedicated or shared resources and rightsizing of databases to allow cost optimization
- Standardized API’s to interact with the underlying RDMS to allow consistency and ease of automation
- Supporting rapid provisioning, automated lifecycle, managed operations and flexible sizing options
- Role Based Access controls integrated to platform capabilities to ensure optimal protection of data assets
- Offering different types of SLAs for corresponding needs
- Backup/Archiving solutions following Swiss Re’s governance/security standards

The core scope of the Product Area includes:
- DBaaS in Private Cloud: Postgres, MSSQL Server, Oracle
- Managed database services in Public Cloud platforms
- Consultancy services for database optimizations
- Database Services Integration and Management Framework
- Application platform for automated database assessment and migrations
- Automated Oracle-To-Postgres assessment and migration assistant
- License/Vendor management for Swisscom Cloud
- (legacy) On-Premises: Drive the migrations and infrastructure decommissioning of Oracle (by end of 2021), and MSSQL
- (legacy) We manage the 3rd party database vendors and providers on behalf of all Swiss Re IT

- Experience understanding customer needs, can demonstrate expertise in Risk & Data, strong business & financial acumen & strategic mindset.
- Experienced communicator both written & verbal and strong stakeholder management skills and able to influence in servant leadership style
- Experience in applying technology to seek business challenges and realize vision & strategy
- Combined agile practices with leadership and management skills across cultures, geographies and organizational levels
- Committed to continuous learning and self-improvement
- Excellent sales, negotiation, influencing and presentation skills
- Ability to motivate others across line management boundaries
- Finisher attitude by getting things accomplished with a strong commitment to quality and timely customer service
- Dedication to the Swiss Re’s new way of working through greater collaboration and breaking down of silos
- English fluency is a must
