Job description, responsibilities and duties

The Legal Counsel role is part of the Legal Reinsurance EMEA team, a multi-jurisdictional team based in several locations across the EMEA region, providing legal services to the Reinsurance Business Unit as well as in support of the operating platform in EMEA.

You will be required to work closely with Legal Counsels responsible for other EMEA regions as well as other Legal & Compliance functions providing legal services in the EMEA region (e.g. Dispute Resolution & Litigation, Corporate Centre & Group Functions, Corporate Solutions, Compliance).

As Legal Counsel in the Operations Advisory Team you will provide legal services pertaining to the day to day operations of Swiss Re in Slovakia and across the EMEA region.

This involves the identification, management and control of legal risks, the establishment of efficient legal processes and of relationships with local authorities and regulators.

Key activities and accountabilities include:

•Legal adviser to the Country President/ Location Head and local Operations teams in Bratislava (e.g. Corporate Real Estate & Services)
•Managing the legal aspects of operations projects and strategic initiatives within the EMEA region (e.g. opening offices in new jurisdictions)
•Reviewing and drafting legal documents, conducting legal research, performing legal analysis, managing disputes and local investigations, leading and collaborating on projects
•Actively managing potential legal risks for EMEA operations, including monitoring legal developments, actioning changes, and providing relevant training and reporting
•Liaising with regulatory agencies and state authorities as needed
•Retaining outside legal counsel, including instructing and relationship management

Requirements for the employee

Candidates with education suit the position

University education (Bachelor's degree)
University education (Master's degree)

Language skills

English - Upper intermediate (B2)

Personality requirements and skills

Qualifications & Experience
•Slovak qualified lawyer, with Slovak bar exam
•Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in a top tier law firm or relevant in house position
•International experience an advantage



Languages
•Fluent (speaking and drafting) in English and Slovak
•Other European languages a significant advantage (e.g. Italian, Spanish, Dutch)

You should be comfortable working in a decentralised organisational structure and will require significant organisational, collaboration and influencing skills to achieve success. You should be enthusiastic about working in new areas, including advising on matters beyond your home qualification (e.g. advising on real estate matters in Italy, instructing external counsel on a dispute in Spain).
