Job description, responsibilities and duties

The role reports to the Head of Finance and Operations and will involve direct work with our Chief Science Officer (CSO). You are the first point of contact to our science teams in Bratislava, as well as for colleagues in Oxford and Boston and to our broad network of external partners (vendors, universities, customs offices, couriers and consultants). You are digitally savvy and learn quickly how to use new digital tools, explore options and how recurring activities and processes can be improved. Beyond operational tasks you take initiative to track and interpret purchasing and vendor data (delivery time, price, geography) to streamline and speed up procurement and help our Science team to achieve our R&D results. Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the R&D team to understand their processes and requirements; maintain an organized lab that enables best experimental workflows;
  • Keep an active and updated inventory of laboratory supply; proactively reassessing upcoming needs versus current stocks and upcoming orders;
  • Conduct all lab purchasing activities including procurement, receiving, and stocking of inventory such as consumables, chemicals, and lab equipment;
  • Manage incoming invoices, execute payments and work closely with Finance Team to ensure proper accounting treatment for invoices;
  • Support purchasing activities for Oxford Lab and work together with the Oxford Lab Manager to streamline purchasing activities for the whole Group;
  • Serve as primary contact for lab vendors;
  • Assist scientists in simple technical work as needed, in areas such as preparation of cell cultures, preparation of cultivation media and cell banks ;
  • Oversee and maintain laboratory policies and Environmental Health and Safety requirements;
  • Ensure office supplies and services for all Sensible locations around the world;
    Support Head of Finance and Ops and Line Managers in ensuring proper employee attendance records;
  • Take part in various projects focusing on improving operational excellence and building organizational capabilities of the Company.


Job Requirements:

  • Education & Experience:
  • At least 3 years work experience in biochemistry / molecular biology laboratory and/or a MA degree in biochemistry/molecular biology/biology/chemistry/genetics; 
  • Experience with lab equipment procurement;
  • Past experience with managing laboratory orders and inventory;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Google products;
  • Fluency in both English and Slovak (or Czech).

  • Resourceful, proactive, and independent, with the ability to excel under intermittent supervision,
  • Meticulous attention to detail and organization;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with (international) public tendering in Slovakia and/or Europe;

University education (Master's degree)

Language skills

Slovak - Proficiency (C2) and English - Advanced (C1)
