Job description, responsibilities and duties

YOUR DAILY JOB AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Turn specifications/requirements into software designs often within an existing tech stack.

Application and feature development while writing efficient, reliable, and maintainable code.

Troubleshooting, debugging, maintaining and improving existing software.

Develop and integrate machine learning, optimization and analytic algorithms into production modeling environments.

Gather and characterize data inputs and outputs for the models.

Help with testing and continuous improvement of the models.

Work with Software Engineers to integrate the modeling code into the software stack.

Personality requirements and skills

MUST HAVE:

Strong python design and development skills including modeling libraries and frameworks such as pandas, numpy, scipy, etc.

Structured software development experience including Agile software development processes.

Ability to design scalable, performant and resilient software applications based on business and technical requirements often within an existing tech stack.

Experience with data science project workflows (problem definition, data gathering/cleansing/engineering; exploratory analysis, feature/model algorithm selection, training/tuning, evaluation, etc.).

Experience in the manipulation and analysis of large data sets and time-series data.

Familiarity with prototyping in Jupyter notebooks.

Experience working with SCM (git).

SHOULD HAVE:

Experience building, maintaining and improving optimization models (e.g., LPs, MILPs and open-source solvers); preferably in the energy sector.

Familiarity with subset of topics within ML (e.g., tree based methods, simple and complex regression models, SVMs, RNNs, clustering, dimensionality reduction, etc.)

Involvement with physical/statistical model development.

Analytical, problem solving skills with attention to detail.

Proven ability to learn quickly and works well both independently and in a (distributed) team setting.

Ability to take responsibility for high-level requirements and their implementation.

COULD HAVE:

Experience working with data visualization with packages such as plotly or plotly-dash.

Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes and cloud systems such as GCP.

Knowledge of the energy industry - familiarity with energy markets, renewables, distributed energy resources and building optimization.

Ability to present and communicate results to technical and non-technical audiences.
