About the Role

Applies industry knowledge and experience to manage projects. Utilizes planning, resource, and task management skills in directing internal and external teams to successful implementation of projects. Can delegate and manage multiple projects at any given time.  Responsible for follow-up of mechanical systems designs for a variety of assembly applications including welders, robots, conveyance and transfer systems. Can champion continuous improvement initiatives such cycle time, scrap, downtime and manpower reduction through welding / assembly, and stamping during the manufacturing of steel and aluminum engine cradles. Champion the design, build, and development of assembly processes and tooling required. Manage activities of engineering changes, and VAVE activities. Support quality fast response meetings and trouble shoot production issues on the line. Be able to update and create PFMEA’s, process flows, work instructions and understand the product GD&T.

Your Responsibilities
  1. Responsible to drive and understand customer specifications, both corporate and plan and applies Kamtek standards for use in all aspects of mechanical designs.
  2. Handles medium size projects from inception to completion (timing, concept, feasibility, design, construction, try-out, launch, final buy-off (PPAP and run at rate), prototype programs, and engineering changes) with moderate follow-up by leadership.
  3. Conducts appropriate Manpower efficiency studies – through time and motion studies or standard data. Line balancing manpower, machine charts and analysis 
  4. Prepares reports, charts and other documentation required for engineering records and projects
  5. Works with all departments and customers to design solutions that improve production efficiency, ergonomics, safety, and maintenance related issues
  6. Supports continuous improvement initiatives
  7. Assists in developing material handling logistics (i.e. - Aisle layout, bin placement, dunnage assists, etc.)
  8. Reviews, monitors and co-ordinates tooling design, build, approval process and capital budgets
  9. Responsible to support production personnel in root cause analysis and problem resolution of production quality and cost challenges.
  10. Responsible to estimate content and labor costs for proposals and engineering change quotes.

Who we are looking for
  • Required to possess a mature, consistent attitude towards the responsibilities of the job;
  • Must have strong leadership skills, must be able to lead by example whenever necessary and promote a team approach to problem solving;
  • Must have sound knowledge of employment related legislative requirements;
  • Must be self-motivated and display the skills required to develop and motivate employees;
  • Must be capable of working under pressure and with short completion times on projects;
  • TS16949 awareness and adherence;
  • ISO14001 awareness and adherence;
  • Lean Manufacturing and 5S concepts awareness and adherence.
  • Experience in Project Management
  • Knowledge of MIG welding aluminum and galvanized steel
Your preferred qualifications

KNOWLEDGE

EDUCATION:  High School Diploma or GED required,

B.S. degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (preferred), or equivalent experience


TECHNICAL TRAINING:  AutoCAD and CAD viewer programs

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

WHAT TYPES?  Engineering experience in an automotive manufacturing environment
