Information about the position

Job description, responsibilities and duties

Are you a self-starter AND good at making things happen? Do you wonder if teenagers can become entrepreneurs and practice good leadership? If yes, continue reading.

We are looking for a very important team member at our Entrepreneurial Leadership department of LEAF Academy. Whom do we need?

Someone who will fit in our team:

- You can come from different backgrounds and have different interests. Currently, we have team members interested in leadership and strategy, small enterprises and creative industries, economics and international relations, design thinking.
- No matter what your background or interests, you must be entrepreneurial (starting with the needs, being open to different solutions) and must be ready to grow.
- You will need the energy to create with us - the curriculum we teach is made and tailored to students by our team, with resources from our partner schools and partners (businesses, NGOs)
- You need to be able to contribute to building trustful relationships within the team, students and externally.
- Our communication in the team is kind and direct. You should be able to ask for help and listen.

Role-fit

- It is ok not to have a teaching background, we will support you in becoming a good teacher. An important prerequisite is a right attitude towards students and colleagues: they are our partners in learning.
- You will be responsible for teaching the foundations of entrepreneurial leadership to/with our new-coming students. Don’t worry, there is training for that.
- All of our team members communicate with external partners (businesses, NGOs), with students of diverse maturity and background (14-19 years old, different cultures), and we cooperate with colleagues from other departments of the Academy.
- You will need coaching skills and project management skills (especially getting things done). Previous experience in this area will be useful.

Organisation-fit

- You need to be thriving in ambiguity. As an organization, we are a startup to a medium-sized institution. That means we are still learning and innovating. All of us have multiple roles in the organization, teaching is part of them.
- You will benefit from being in our school if you are an active learner yourself. We are an international organization. That means diverse cultures, many experiences, and opportunities to learn from each other. Also, to provide an inclusive environment, we use only English on school premises.

Who are we?

- Imagine a small colorful office (because of whiteboards and post-its)
- We got together to help students and faculty to become more entrepreneurial, in connection with their strengths and growth mindset.
- We love both to work together and spend a good time together, including our families at times.

What do we, members of the Entrepreneurial Leadership department, do?

- We teach "in the classroom" about six hours a week
- We teach outside of the classroom all the other time - consultations for students and colleagues, preparing support structures, re-inventing the curriculum, learning from the market and resources from around the world, coordinating with external partners - companies and NGOs.
- All teachers at LEAF Academy serve also as advisors to a small group of students and assume weekly residential duties and a few weekend residential duties per semester
- As a new school (opened in 2016), we work on whole-school projects and try to support each other as much as we can.

What is LEAF Academy?

LEAF Academy is an international boarding high school located in Bratislava, Slovakia. The Academy opened its doors in 2016. The currently serves 100 students and has 30 full-time staffulty (staff and faculty) with plans to grow enrollment every year. LEAF Academy is part of LEAF, a non-profit organization with multiple programs to develop young people with the potential to be the shapers in the region. LEAF Academy is one of the few full-boarding schools in the Central Europe region and was designed with the intent to create a strong boarding culture where learning often happens outside the classroom. As a school that promotes innovation and change, we are not interested in simply replicating concepts from well-established boarding schools. (Re)thinking what we do and how we do it is an essential and ongoing feature of our culture.

LEAF Academy is rooted in the values of entrepreneurial leadership, excellence, ethics, and civic engagement. Students are admitted to a 2 or 4-year program. We aspire to be a community of learners where students and staffulty work and learn together while having fun. The Academy offers a rigorous and innovative academic program using the AP curriculum in combination with experiential learning opportunities and courses such as entrepreneurial leadership, character development, STEM, and Central European studies. The Academy’s approach to learning emphasizes the development of skills and competencies over the mastery of content and promotes the ‘real world’ connection. This focus is not just declared; the school has been designed to focus on these areas. LEAF Academy aspires to be one of the most entrepreneurial schools in the world. This means a lot of opportunities to make things happen; it also means a lot of ambiguity.
