Job description, responsibilities and duties

Role overview:
The European Indirect Tax Manager, will play a key role supporting the development of a centralized European Indirect Tax Function, as part of an overall strategy to standardize, centralize and automate tax processes.
The role will be based in a European Business Services Center.

Responsibilities will be to:
- Drive the current work stream of transition of VAT processes to our Shared Services Centers (in Europe and India) to standardize, centralize and automate indirect tax processes across Europe
- Develop indirect tax strategies and execute priorities, oversee and enhance compliance processes mainly in the Europe region
- Stay informed of indirect tax legislative changes in Europe and ensure proper communication and implementation
- Ensure correct VAT application and set-up in the accounting processes of companies within the LH Group including the support the finance team(s) with the set-up of VAT codes and reports in SAP
- Lead technology innovation opportunities in order to support the automation, growth and innovation of the Indirect Tax function, as well as data analytics and digitization initiatives
- Be a key contact for VAT authorities and assists during audits
- Contribute to the evolution of the global Tax Centralization model, and support the regional service centers and global Tax functions in optimizing their performance delivery to the business
- Lead and support initiatives to manage the standardized, centralized and automated other Tax related work streams, as well as to closely manage any external partnerships
- Long term: be the head of the function and support countries in tax planning and tax compliance, as well as during local tax audits

Personality requirements and skills

Required professional experience:
- Minimum 4 years’ experience leading Indirect Tax processes and/or functions
- Preferably experience in Finance transformation programs or projects in complex corporate environments
- Preferably, background in consulting as well as corporate environment
- Experience in a true multinational and multicultural environment
- Proven stakeholder management and people management competencies

Knowledge and skills:
- Very good experience in EU VAT and Swiss VAT
- Strong knowledge of and practical experience with SAP
- Strong expertise in leading indirect taxes processes in a central shared service center
- Strong expertise in Indirect Tax, Tax digitalization including outsourcing and offshoring
- Good communicator (verbally and in writing)
- Informal and collaborative leadership skills
- Proven ability to coordinate and lead (project) team members from multiple internal departments and external vendors
- Strong ability in managing key stakeholders
- Proactive and hands-on approach
- Pragmatic and strong execution focus, structured working style
- English min. B2 - other languages are a plus

Taxation competencies:
- Communicate knowledge of the operation and scope of the tax system, obligations of taxpayers, and the implications of non-compliance and advise on tax planning
- Advise ethically on strategic tax plans and compute the tax liabilities of individuals, companies and groups of companies
- Explain and compute the effects of value added tax (VAT) / goods and services tax (GST) and indirect tax on incorporated and unincorporated businesses and advises appropriately

Postgraduate (Doctorate)
