Information about the position

Job description, responsibilities and duties

VAT Compliance & Reporting:

  • Prepare, review, and file accurate and timely VAT returns (e.g., monthly, quarterly) for various jurisdictions (e.g., domestic, EU, international).

  • Manage and process related compliance documentation, including EC Sales Lists, Intrastat declarations, and annual reconciliations.

  • Ensure all VAT-related transactions are correctly accounted for and recorded in the financial system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.).

  • Perform regular VAT general ledger account reconciliations.

Advisory & Strategy:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for internal VAT queries from various departments (e.g., Sales, Purchasing, Legal, IT).

  • Monitor changes in VAT legislation and regulations across relevant jurisdictions and proactively assess the impact on the business.

  • Provide advice on the VAT implications of new business initiatives, product launches, complex transactions, and supply chain changes.

  • Identify opportunities for VAT savings and process improvements.

Audits & Risk Management:

  • Manage and coordinate VAT audits and inquiries from tax authorities.

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce robust VAT-related internal controls and processes to mitigate risk.

  • Ensure full documentation is maintained to support VAT positions and filings.

  • Work with external tax advisors and legal counsel as necessary.

Process Improvement & Projects:

  • Drive continuous improvement in VAT compliance processes through automation and system enhancements.

  • Participate in financial system upgrades or implementations (e.g., ERP configuration) to ensure accurate VAT determination and reporting.

  • Assist with ad-hoc financial and tax projects as required.

Requirements for the employee

Minimum education required

University education (Bachelor's degree)

Language skills

English - Upper intermediate (B2)

Personality requirements and skills

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business Administration or any similar.
• 3 - 4 years’ experience in accounting (GL preferred)
• Equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft Finance modules - advantage.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Technical accounting skills.
• Good analytical and numeracy skills.
• Ability to identify financial issues and execute mitigating actions.
• Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple work requirements to meet deadlines.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, managers and clients.
