Job description, responsibilities and duties

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of IOM Mission in Slovakia and direct supervision of the Head of the European Migration Network (EMN) Unit in the Slovak Republic; the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for assisting with implementation of all EMN project activities (www.emn.sk) with focus on capacity building, communication and raising awareness activities as well as for the overall support of the EMN Head.

Responsibilities:

1.Assist to develop, organize, and actively implement communication activities and/or capacity building activities in different parts of Slovakia such as discussions workshops, round tables, presentations, and other events aimed at different groups of professionals and/or wider public.
2.Prepare and/or contribute to various visibility materials in form of presentations, photos, articles, short films/videos/podcasts, newsletters, social media posts/blogs or others as required.
3.Prepare other information materials (e.g. leaflets, one-pagers, flashes) for the target groups aimed at communicating particular migration related topics.
4.Update and finalize a user-friendly publication for wider public “Guide on Migration” (working title).
5.Regularly update the national EMN website in Slovak and English as well as EMN seminar website. Draft original texts and narratives. Copy editing. Quality control and troubleshooting (or initiating service requests).
6.Act as a focal point for the capacity building activities and participate in the EMN communication and dissemination working group or other EMN working groups.
7.Contribute to desk research/pre-research, review policies, legislation, and trends within the topics relevant for the EMN. Contribute to analyses, reports and share knowledge of gathered outcomes (through e.g. briefs, articles, etc.).
8.Contribute to the development of the EMN studies and other EMN outputs.
9.Assist with the implementation of networking activities e.g. organization and logistics of events, conferences, workshops, educational seminar, public events, etc.
10.Manage publicity of EMN activities on social media platforms. Implement posting strategy.
11.Maintain/establish cooperation with local and regional institutions, relevant governmental, non-governmental entities as well as other international organisations.
12.Participate in the EMN meetings organised by the European Commission and/or provide necessary expert support for the meetings. Participate in other EMN meetings between EU Member States related to different EMN/migration topics.
13.Assist in evaluation and reviewing of the project progress, including financial monitoring of the relevant budget expenditures in order to ensure effective planning of project activities.
14.Perform other related duties as may be assigned by Chief of Mission and the direct supervisor.

​One Year Fixed Term Contract with possibility of extension - subject to funding

​General Staff (GV, UN Salary Scale valid for the Slovak Republic since 1 Jan 2023). Step one of the salary scale corresponds to base salary 1,845.58 EUR per month (income is exempted from taxation).

​6 weeks of paid annual leave per year (2.5 days per completed month of service).
​24 days of paid sick leave per year (2 days per completed month of service).

Personality requirements and skills

EDUCATION
•University degree in Humanities, International Relations, Communications, Marketing, Public relations, Information Management, Political or Social Sciences, or related field from an accredited academic institution, with at least three years of relevant professional experience, preferably in similar roles; OR
•Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with at least five years of relevant working experience, preferably in similar roles.

EXPERIENCE
• Experience in conducting capacity building workshops, communication activities or education activities;
• Experience in writing, editing, and producing newsletters, press releases, articles, social media content, short videos; podcasts; reports and briefing memos; marketing collateral, and other print materials;
• Relevant working experience in fields related to analysing information and data, research activities – preferably in Slovak context, networking and meeting organization);
• Experience in Web Content Management System (preferably Joomla);
• Experience in working with governments, civil society, EC is an advantage;
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher SharePoint is required;
• Experience in photo-editing or video/podcast editing is an advantage;
• Experience in working with migrants, migration management, and international migration issues is an advantage.

SKILLS
