Job description, responsibilities and duties

Under the general supervision of the Head of Migrant Protection and Assistance Unit and direct supervision of Emergency Coordinator in cooperation with Project Team, the incumbent will have the following duties and responsibilities:

Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1. Support the implementation and monitoring of the daily activities in the sites;
2. Maintain daily communication with the teams operating at the sites;
3. Support coordination of field staff in performing their tasks and duties on daily basis and report to National Coordinators;
4. Implement security measures for IOM field staff in cooperation with IOM security experts and law enforcement authorities;
5. Liaise and coordinate with local authorities, Municipalities, Site Managers and other site actors or IOM’s co-Applicants;
6. Support SMS Coordinators in general matters.
7. Addressing beneficiaries’ information needs, providing comprehensive, timely and accurate information through accessible channels, in a culturally sensitive way;
8. Map available national and local services, facilitating beneficiaries’ access to health, education, employment, and integration opportunities;
9. Engage communities in decision-making, through structured community meetings that promote inclusion, participation, and representation;
10. Collect and report beneficiaries’ feedback.
11. Organize activities aimed at restoring resilience and promoting self-reliance and accountability;
12. Liaise with local actors, service providers, volunteers and other stakeholders, to support the operational effectiveness of the IOM SMS teams, and to promote integration and cultural diversity.
13. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

General Staff (GIV, UN Salary Scale valid for the Slovak Republic since 1 Jan 2009). Step one of the salary scale corresponds to all inclusive fee 1220 EUR per month (take home payment of 1185 EUR - income is exempted from taxation).
6 weeks of paid annual leave per year (2.5 days per completed month of service).
24 days of paid sick leave per year (2 days per completed month of service).

Personality requirements and skills

Education
• High School diploma with four years of relevant experience; or,
• Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience.

Experience
• Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
• Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
• Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
Skills
• Strong coordination and communication skills
• Monitoring, implementation and supervising skills
• Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills including ability to work under time pressure;
• Ability to work individually and in multicultural team

Languages
Fluency in English and Slovak is required. Working knowledge of Ukrainian and/or Russian is an advantage.
