Job description, responsibilities and duties

Office of the IOM International Organization for Migration in the Slovak Republic is seeking for a candidate for the position of Senior Project Assistant (Legal Counselling).
Under the overall guidance of the Head of Office (HoO) in Bratislava, the direct supervision of the National Labour Migration Programme and Private Sector Engagement Officer and close cooperation with the National Legal Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for providing legal counselling within the services of the IOM Migration Information Centre (MIC), supporting the labour mobility and integration of migrants under the Recovery and Resilience Plan of Slovakia (MIC RRP). Specifically, s/he will perform:

1. Provide legal counselling to clients personally, via email or telephone;
2. Prepare records on individual cases, performs case management and maintain client’s folders;
3. Collect and regularly update relevant data and legal documents in a database of information related to legal and labour integration of migrants;
4. Provide specialized assistance in elaborating legal analyses and statements to relevant laws and other legal documents and commenting relevant legislation;
5. Assist in the elaboration of research reports;
6. Organize meetings, workshops, prepare training materials and deliver trainings on labour mobility in Slovak and English;
7. Develop information materials for target groups, and various visibility materials in form of presentations, photos, articles, short films or others;
8. Monitor and update the MIC website, including insertion of updates, communication with website service provider;
9. Continuously process the reports from field project activities and participate in preparation of monitoring reports as appropriate, including financial reports;
10. Gather and archive data, information and supporting documentation necessary for the project implementation;
11. Draft status reports; identify shortfalls in delivery, bring them to the attention of the supervisor and suggest corrective measures;
12. Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of project;
13. Assist in the preparation of periodic and final reports to the donor, preparation of supporting documentation, including briefings, background information, narratives and statistical analysis as necessary and required and communicate with external partners;
14. Establish and/or maintain contacts with migrant communities, relevant governmental, non-governmental entities, private sector as well as other international organisations and local NGOs on project issues;
15. Draft correspondence on project issues; prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, and other forms of documentation;
16. Act as interpreter/translator (Slovak-English, English-Slovak and other foreign languages if appropriate);
17. Provide guidance/training to other staff in the team;
18. Participate on other project-related activities, as required;
19. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by Head of Office or direct supervisor.

General Staff (GVI, UN Salary Scale valid for the Slovak Republic since 1 Jan 2009). Step one of the salary scale corresponds to 1809 EUR base salary per month, 1597 EUR net salary per month, salary is tax exempted.

Type of appointment: One Year Fixed Term Contract with possibility of extension.

Personality requirements and skills

University degree in Law, Migration Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with at least four years of relevant professional experience, preferably in similar roles;
OR
Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with at least six years of relevant working experience, preferably in similar roles.

Experience in Migration Law;
Experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups;
Experience in preparing and delivering trainings;
Experience in writing and editing of research papers, studies and reports;
Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, and non-governmental organizations;
Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-governmental or governmental institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage;
Experience in developing and implementing project activities related to migration issues is an advantage.

Sound knowledge of project implementation processes
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with beneficiaries and within a team;
Excellent orientation in social, labour and migration law of the Slovak Republic and human rights law;

Fluency in English and Slovak (oral and written).
Knowledge of another official IOM language (French, Spanish, Russian, Serbian, etc.) is an advantage.
