Job description, responsibilities and duties

Office of the IOM International Organization for Migration in the Slovak Republic is seeking for a candidate for the position of Project Assistant (Legal Counselling).
Under the overall guidance of the Head of Office (HoO) in Bratislava, the direct supervision of the National Labour Migration Programme and Private Sector Engagement Officer and in close cooperation with the National Legal Officer and Senior Legal Assistant, the incumbent will be responsible for providing legal counselling within the services of the Migration Information Centre (MIC) and supporting the labour mobility and integration of migrants under the Recovery and Resilience Plan of Slovakia (MIC RRP). Specifically, s/he will perform:

1. Provide general legal counselling to clients personally, via email or telephone;
2. Prepare records on individual cases, performs case management and maintain client’s folders;
3. Monitor update and new legislation with regards to labour mobility;
4. Assist in elaborating legal analyses and statements to relevant laws and other legal documents;
5. Collect and regularly update relevant data and legal documents in a database of information related to legal and labour integration of migrants;
6. Assist in preparing training materials on labour mobility in Slovak and English;
7. Assist in developing information materials and other supporting documents for target groups;
8. Monitor and assist in updating the MIC website,
9. Assist in preparing various visibility materials in form of presentations, photos, articles, short films or others;
10. Organize outreach activities towards the private sector, educational and research institutions, trainings and consultations;
11. Assist in preparation of events, reports, briefings, background information, narratives and statistical analysis as necessary and required;
12. Gather and archive data, information and supporting documentation necessary for the project implementation;
13. Act as interpreter/translator (Slovak-English, English-Slovak and other relevant languages if appropriate);
14. Perform general office maintenance tasks including correspondence, market surveys; logistics, and procurement of technical equipment and office supplies.
15. Assist in evaluation and review of the project’s progress;
16. Assist in the preparation of periodic and final reports to the donor, including filing and preparing supporting documentation;
17. Participate in other project-related activities, as required;
18. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by Head of Office or direct supervisor.

General Staff (GV, UN Salary Scale valid for the Slovak Republic since 1 Jan 2009). Step one of the salary scale corresponds to 1490 EUR base salary per month, 1309 EUR net salary per month, salary is tax exempted.
Type of appointment: One Year Fixed Term Contract with possibility of extension.
6 weeks of paid annual leave per year.

Personality requirements and skills

University degree in Law, Migration Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with at least three years of relevant professional experience, preferably in similar roles;
OR
Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with at least five years of relevant working experience, preferably in similar roles.

Experience in migration Law;
Experience in preparing legal documents;
Experience in writing and editing articles and preparing presentations;
Experience in project administration;
Experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups is an advantage;
Experience in developing and implementing project activities related to migration issues is an advantage;

Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with a beneficiaries and within a team;
Excellent orientation in social, labour and migration law of the Slovak Republic and human rights law;
Fluency in English and Slovak (oral and written);
Knowledge of another language (French, Spanish, Russian, Serbian etc.) is an advantage.
