Job description, responsibilities and duties

Office of the IOM International Organization for Migration in the Slovak Republic is seeking for a candidate for the position of EMN publications and communication activities assistant. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating of EMN communication activities conducted in the framework of the European Migration Network (EMN) project implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and co-funded by the European Union. CORE FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the EMN Coordinator and overall guidance of the Head of Office (HoO), the successful candidate will be assisting in the implementation of all project activities related to the European Migration Network. Specifically, s/he will:

1. Develop, organize and actively implement communication activities in different parts of Slovakia such as discussions, workshops, round tables, presentations and other events aimed at different groups of wider public (e.g. youths, teachers, journalists)
2. Prepare and/or contribute to various visibility materials in form of presentations, photos, articles, short films/videos, newsletters, social media posts/blogs or other such as required;
3. Elaborate an user-friendly “Guide on Migration Policies in the Slovak Republic” (working title).
4. Develop other information materials (e.g. leaflets, one pagers, flashes) for the target groups aimed at communicating particular migration related topics.
5. Establish cooperation with local and regional institutions, relevant governmental, non-governmental entities as well as other international organisations and local NGOs on project activities;
6. Participate in preparation of monitoring reports as appropriate;
7. Prepare reports, briefings, minutes, background information, narratives and statistical analysis as necessary and required;
8. Gather and archive data, information and supporting documentation necessary for the project implementation;
9. Actively participate in the meetings of the project team, as well as attend official meetings and appointments if needed;
10. Perform general office maintenance tasks including correspondence, market surveys; logistics, and procurement of technical equipment and office supplies.
11. Participate in other project-related activities, as needed;
12. Assist in evaluation and reviewing of the project progress, including financial monitoring of the relevant budget expenditures in order to ensure effective planning of project activities;
13. Assist with translations, and/or acts as interpreter/translator (Slovak-English, English-Slovak).
14. Perform other duties assigned by the HoO/Coordinator of the EMN activities.

Employee perks, benefits

Offered salary varies based on the education and relevant experience of the candidates from:
General Staff GIV, UN Salary Scale, 1226EUR base salary per month, 1070EUR net salary per month, salary is tax exempted - up to General Staff GV, UN Salary Scale, 1490 EUR base salary per month, 1307 EUR net salary per month, salary is tax exempted.
Type of contract: Special short term graded for nine month with possibility of extension till 31 Dec 2020.
6 weeks of paid annual leave per year.
24 days of paid sick leave per year.

Personality requirements and skills

 Completed Masters or Equivalent or Higher from an accredited academic institution in Humanities, Social Sciences, Media and Communication studies or in other related field;
 A minimum of two years of relevant working experience in developing, organizing and implementing different kinds of events aiming at communicating particular topic to a specific target group (topic of migration, intercultural communication or other similar is an advantage);
 Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills with a commitment to provide respectful, culturally and contently competent communication; and the skills to adapt communication suitable for different target groups;
 Very good knowledge of migration and asylum situation, law and policy in the Slovak Republic;
 Demonstrated experience in elaboration and/or compilation of publications and other information materials aiming at provision information in succinct and user friendly manner;
 Experience in communicating via other marketing/communications channels such as social media posts/blogs; short videos etc.;
 Exceptional communication, organizational and writing skills;
 Experience in working with communities, governments, civil society and the private sector;
 Language skills: Excellent command of Slovak (native) and English language;
 Computer skills – user:
o Microsoft Excel – advanced
o Microsoft Word – advanced
o Microsoft PowerPoint – advanced
- Familiarity/experience with design software/technologies, video and animation tools – an
