Job description, responsibilities and duties

​As an LCA and Carbon Footprint Expert, you will play a crucial role in assessing and optimizing the environmental performance of our battery manufacturing processes. You will be responsible for conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and analyzing the carbon footprint of our products to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to reduce environmental impact. This role requires a strong understanding of sustainability principles, carbon accounting methodologies, and experience in conducting LCAs within the battery manufacturing sector.

  • Conduct life cycle assessments (LCAs) to evaluate the environmental impact of our battery manufacturing processes, from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal.
  • Conduct cradle-to-grave analyses for energy production and storage, including batteries. Evaluate the environmental impact of chemical compounds used in battery production. Define supply chains relevant to battery manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and maintain carbon footprint models to quantify greenhouse gas emissions associated with our operations.
  • Conducting a thorough assessment of greenhouse gas emissions associated with battery manufacturing operations, encompassing all three scopes as defined by the GHG Protocol.
  • Identifying and quantifying key environmental indicators such as greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, water usage, and resource depletion.
  • Developing and maintaining databases of environmental performance metrics, such as emissions factors, energy consumption data, and material inputs.
  • Identify key areas for improvement and recommend strategies to reduce environmental impact and carbon footprint.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, operations, and sustainability, to integrate environmental considerations into product development and manufacturing processes.
  • Independently responsible for set-up and maintenance of a global calculation system for product carbon footprint based on drawings, calculations and BOM’s.
  • Stay updated on relevant regulations, standards, and industry best practices related to LCA and carbon footprint assessments.
  • Utilize specialized software tools such as OneClick, GaBi, and open LCA for conducting LCAs and carbon footprint calculations.
  • Cooperation with players within the industry, R&D, and financial services sectors around sustainability with a specific focus on but not limited to Carbon Markets, GHG inventories and decarbonization target settings (SBTi), Carbon Footprint, LCA, Climate Change Risk Assessment, Decarbonisation studies, Energy Audits, etc.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including senior management, to support informed decision-making.
  • Implementing robust data management systems to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and traceability of environmental data used in assessments and reporting.
  • Participate in sustainability reporting initiatives and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and corporate sustainability goals.
  • Participating in industry forums, conferences, and working groups to share best practices, exchange knowledge, and contribute to the advancement of sustainable battery manufacturing practices.

University education (Master's degree)

Educational Specialization

Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, or related field.

Language skills

English - Advanced (C1)

Personality requirements and skills

  • Proven experience in conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and carbon footprint analyses within the manufacturing sector, preferably in the energy or battery industry.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in LCA software tools and carbon accounting methodologies.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, standards (e.g., GHG Protocol, PEF Methodology, ISO Standards 14040/14044), and sustainability frameworks (e.g., CDP, GRI, ESRS, etc). 
  •  Proficiency in LCA software tools such as OneClick, GaBi, or OpenLCA, as well as carbon accounting tools like GHG Protocol or ISO 14064.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship.

InoBat develops technologies with international partners looking to expand their global reach to the European continent in general, especially Central and Eastern Europe.
