Job description, responsibilities and duties

The System Administrator will support an office of 15 employees and will install, setup, and monitor local area network, servers and extranet environment, as well as, perform a variety of maintenance, evaluation, installation, and training tasks to ensure LAN performance meets company requirements. This position requires Application management, customization, and monitoring.


1. Administrate Cisco switches/routers, Windows (2003/2008 R2)/Linux (Debian/RHEL/Centos) VMware ESX, Lotus Domino platform, Zabbix and pfSense, bind/postfix and apache
2. Evaluate and/or recommend purchases of computers, network hardware, peripheral equipment, and software
3. Investigate user problems, identify their source, determine possible solutions, test and implement solutions
4. Install, configure, and maintain personal computers, laptops, file servers, ethernet networks, network cabling, and other related equipment, devices, and systems; adds or upgrades and configures modems, disk drives, data acquisition boards, printers, and related equipment
5. Perform and/or oversee software and application development, customization, installation, and upgrades
6. Plan and implement network security, including building firewalls, applying cryptography to network applications, managing host security, file permissions, backup and disaster recovery plans, file system integrity, and adding and deleting users/groups
7. Troubleshoot networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties
8. Develop and conduct various training and instruction for system users on operating systems, relational databases, and other applications; assist users in maximizing use of networks and computing systems
9. Identify utilization patterns and their effect on operation/system availability and performance expectations
10. Anticipate communication and networking problems and implement preventive measures
11. Establish and perform maintenance programs following company and vendor standards
12. Ensure timely user notification of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability
13. Investigate, recommend and install enhancements and operating procedures that optimize network availability
14. Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed by the network
15. Document network problems and resolutions for future reference
16. Periodic verification of backup routines, patching/upgrading servers.
17. Ability to travel occasionally, on rare occasion.

Requirements for the employee

Candidates with education suit the position

University education (Bachelor's degree)

Language skills

Slovak - Proficiency (C2) and
English - Advanced (C1)

Personality requirements and skills

Requirements and Skills:
- Speak, read and write Slovak/English fluently
- Experience supporting desktop users
- Experience with server grade hardware
- Understanding networking fundamentals including mail routing, DNS, firewalls and packet routing
Cisco switches/routers
- Windows (2003/2008 R2)
- Linux (Debian/RHEL/Centos
- VMware ESX 4/4.1 and Xen
- bind/postfix and apache
- Scripting (Bash/Perl/or something akin)
- Must be able to lift 50+lbs

Considered an asset to have:
- Active Directory experience
- Advanced networking experience
- VCP/MCSE/RHCE/RHCSA/OCPDBA/A+/CCNA/CCNP/LPI certifications an asset
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
- Knowledge of federal copyright laws as they pertain to the use of computer software.
