Job description, responsibilities and duties

  • As a German teacher you will aspire to the highest standards of professionalism and will, in particular:
  • Promote the ‘mission’ and philosophy of the school ensuring that children are working towards being truly bilingual, international citizens.
  • Ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment, and reporting are of the highest quality and meet the varying learning and social needs of students.
  • Be flexible and adjust to the needs of the school, actively contributing to the school development plans and growth.
  • Demonstrate thorough curriculum knowledge, teach, and assess effectively.
  • Primary German Year 3 - 6 follow Key Stage 2 of the English National Curriculum (ENC). Assessment at KS2 is criterion-related using the BISB (NAE) 4-point scale, with progress targeted and tracked at regular intervals.
  • Years 7 to 9 follow Key Stage 3 of the English National Curriculum (ENC). Assessment at KS3 is criterion-related using the BISB (NAE) 4-point scale, with progress targeted and tracked at regular intervals.
  • Years 10 and 11 prepare for the IGCSE German Foreign Language (0525) as offered by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
  • Years 12 and 13 prepare for the IB GermanAb InitioSL/ German B SL.
  • Use the student tracking and monitoring process to advance student learning and enhance professional practice in line with the school’s aspirations and priorities.
  • Take personal responsibility for professional development.
  • Effectively communicate the school’s narrative, being an ambassador for our school at all times.

  • Qualified to degree level or above in German language teachers plus PGCE/QTS – Essential


Experience:

  • Proven track record with at least two years’ teaching experience of German language - essential
  • Experience of teaching a UK National Curriculum– Desirable
  • Experience of teaching IB and IGCSE German -Desirable
  • Good classroom practice and interpersonal skills – Essential
  • Demonstrable evidence of innovating and adapting curriculum to engage children and enable them to reach their potential – Essential
  • Working in partnership with parents – Essential


Skills:

  • German language C2 level, English at least B2.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills – Essential
  • Ability to teach different age-ranges and English proficiency levels – Essential
  • Ability to engage children and enable them to perform highly – Essential
