Data and Cloud developer: Modern Data Stack

Do you know what DevOps for data or simply DataOps is? Are you a technology enthusiast and enjoy working with data? Well, then you have come across this advertisement absolutely correctly. We are looking for someone with this passion to join us at Alma Career!

We have an open position in the Business Intelligence team and we would like to fill it with someone who knows Python, isn't afraid of AWS, wants to deep dive into BigQuery, and can work within a fairly modern data stack. So, if your knees aren't shaking, let's talk more about it…

How do we imagine you?

• Knowledge of SQL: SQL is stronger than ever thanks to dbt, and you simply can't work without it. It's about a 50/50 split between engineering and data warehousing tasks.
• Programming experience: Our team almost exclusively uses Python, so you should be proficient in this "snake language" just like us.
• Technical background: A penguin is not just an animal, and you need to be able to communicate with it quite fluently. You can't work without Linux and the terminal. It would be great if you at least knew how to start it and how to exit Vim (but Nano is also not bad too).
• Analytical knowledge and skills: Don't worry, you won't be an analyst, but you should be able to search StackOverflow properly or use some AI (we use Cursor and mostly Anthropics models, but we have much more within the company).
• English proficiency at a communicative level: You will be part of an international team. You will actively communicate and participate in online meetings with colleagues from Finland, Croatia, and other countries in group of Alma Career. All documentation is also created in English.
• Ability to organize your time and work: At least one person on the team should be able to do this, right? :)
• Willingness to peek under the hood of things even where you are not completely skilled: To maintain T-shirt skills across the team, and stack traces shouldn't seem like something out of the Matrix to you.
• Sense of humor and enthusiasm for technology.

What will earn you extra points?

• You contribute to some open-source project.
• You know AWS, BigQuery, Dagster, dbt, dlt, DuckDB, Iceberg, Metabase, Qlik, Streamlit, Poetry, uv or similar technologies from the modern data stack.
• You know a real programming language like JavaScript, Rust, or Baltík.
• You like wine, rum, whiskey, coffee, have a bakery at home, bees, a soda maker, or brew your own beer. If you, for example, cook asphalt, that will also impress us, but it won't spice up the teambuilding as much.

Where will you be able to further develop professionally with us?

• Getting data into BigQuery and AWS S3 data lake.
• Orchestrating data flows in Dagster.
• Making changes to the data model in dbt.
• Taking your Python knowledge to the next level.
• Managing and optimizing Clickhouse for customer statistics.
• Working with data in the SaaS version of Qlik Sense and Metabase.
• Contributing to the direction of DWH (both technologically and from a data model perspective).
• Building and maintaining infrastructure in AWS.

We love open-source, but we don't want to be free riders. Therefore, it is important for us to contribute to interesting projects.
