Senior Customs Specialist – Trade Controls (EMEA)

Responsibility Level:

We are the Global Customs & Trade Compliance (GCTC) organization of ADIENT - responsible for all customs and trade compliance activities throughout the world. Principle Role:

Projects & Initiatives: Identify potential new initiatives and projects which will help us to improve our operations. Support as part of the team or lead as project manager the definition, planning and execution of key projects within the region successfully.
Regulatory Monitoring: Keep the overview of new requirements or changes that effect customs & trade compliance work. Analyze the impact of potential or new requirements and help with process implementation to continue our success path.
Consulting: Support our businesses with all kind of upcoming customs & trade compliance related questions. Track and detect repetitive needs and create initiatives to improve operations through appropriate measures.
Export Control: Become our Regional Export Control Process Leader. Oversee all our export control tasks in the region and work closely with your global peers. As subject matter expert you support the team in all kind of export control related questions, establish best practices and continuously improve our processes, instructions and policies.
Audits & Controversies: Own and continuously develop GCTC´s audit process. Assist other GCTC personnel in the handling of all international trade audits and controversies that arise. Analyzing the facts and circumstances of GCTC’s compliance program in light of applicable Customs laws.
Training and Awareness: Create and further develop GCTC´s training & awareness initiatives and plans. Support with the strategy definition across the organization to shape our internal people development program.

General Responsibilities:

Regarding each of the above referenced activities, the Senior Customs Specialist EMEA – Trade Controls may be expected to:

Perform data analytics to identify issues, risks and opportunities that may arise.
Oversee implementation and operation of information technology solutions.
Partner with regional management and the business on Strategic projects
Coordinate with other functional partners, such as; Finance, Risk Management, Legal Counsel, Tax, Information Systems, Procurement, Supply Planning, Logistics, etc. to resolve and/or improve related activities.
Conduct auditing/monitoring of the activities of ADNT personnel and personnel of agents and service providers.

Experience Required:

Demonstrated knowledge in the subject matter (e.g. laws within Europe that govern the import and export of goods)
6 years’ experience in a customs and trade compliance related position.
Excellent English communication skills both written and verbal. German or any other language skills a plus.
Ability to work within teams and independently with minimal supervision.
Strong analytical and presentational skills
Detail oriented, and adaptive to change.


Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or equivalent required.
Customs Brokers License (LCB) Preferred
