Network Engineer

The Network Services Product Area is responsible for the infrastructure services (e.g. SD-WAN, Cloud Connectivity, Security Services, LAN & Wi-Fi, DDI, Load balancers) for the Swiss Re Global Network. The Network Engineering team consists of passionate and experienced network engineers who work in an agile setup across three locations – Zurich, Armonk and Bratislava. We operate the Swiss Re core IT infrastructure platforms which connect people with people as well as people with technology globally and at all times.

About the Role

- As the Network Engineer you will act as a Subject Matter Expert for our global network footprint and you will have a chance to work on cutting-edge solutions used by all Swiss Re employees worldwide.
- You will support the existing engineering team in their daily work and take over the responsibility in service design and transition to deliver a constantly improving, cost efficient and highly available service.
- You will provide expert technical assistance for issues which cannot be resolved within operations and review product and integration architecture.
- You will Interact with the outsourcing partner(s) to ensure that they develop, validate and support the solutions required by Swiss Re and meet Swiss Re security and networking standards.
- You will look for different and better ways of doing things and actively bring them up with improvement proposals (e.g. network programmability and automation).

Technical Skills:
- Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills relating to networking and security implementations
- Ability to carry out detailed network and security analyses (troubleshooting, developing optimization proposals etc)
- Methodical and systematic approach towards gathering requirements, designing solutions, documentation and communication; ability to assess the marketplace (understand what is out there); ability to translate requirements into solutions

Network technologies:
- LAN/WAN/SD-WAN technologies
- WAN routing technologies i.e. MPLS, OSPF, BGP, Overlay VPNs
- Network security such as Cisco firewalls or others, Cisco ISE, Cisco ACI, Algosec
- Extensive knowledge of Cisco routing/switching and Firewalls software including Cisco IOS, ASA OS, and NX-OS
- VPN knowledge (site to site, overlay networking) with emphasis on Cloud connectivity
- Scripting/Programming know-how such as PowerShell, Perl/Python, Bash/Shell
- Proven experience in Windows and or Linux operating systems
- Automation tooling knowledge a plus
