Storage Engineer

Storage Engineer focuses on the technical design, engineering, prototyping and pilot-phase of the assigned service, resp. area of expertise, as well as their ongoing maintenance.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides technical subject matter expertise for the area(s) of focus
  • Provides focused input for the Storage engineering roadmaps and executes his parts of the roadmap implementation
  • Tests technology components, evaluates and qualifies supplier technology based on technology roadmaps and architecture strategy
  • Is able to translate architecture requirement definitions into technical service engineering deliverables including documentation, Bills of Material (with Product Groups), cost, etc.
  • Creates/drives automation of operational tasks/process in his area of expertise in line with the Cloud automation strategy supported by the Automation Engineer(s)
  • Supports the Architecture team in documenting technical requirements for dependent components and maintains relationships with the product engineering function that owns the dependent component to ensure it meets requirements.
  • Understands base components from Building Block Groups that make up the service and any customizations required for the service (which parameters are needed for each module, are there any specific changes needed at the component level for integration into the Cloud service) and provide feedback on the Cloud requirements to Component Groups
  • Provides reusable Cloud Service Components to Building Block Groups for usage outside of the Cloud services
  • Provides lab level support for the deployed Cloud solutions
  • Supports Cloud service deployments into new locations
  • Supports the integration of tools & process into delivery services, working closely with the Cloud delivery teams
  • Supports the installation and testing of tools & process into Lab space in the development of services, working closely with the Cloud Lab delivery team
  • Provides delivery trainings for new services as required
  • Supports Release and Deployment engineers

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master degree in computer science, information systems, electrical engineering or equivalent experience is required
  • At least 5 years of experience in IT environment
  • Significant experience and working knowledge of the tasks necessary to keep the systems / applications in the assigned area running stable, secure and performing well
  • Good communication, documentation, and presentation skills
  • Ability to assimilate multiple technologies / service requirements into a complete service design
  • Critical thinking and creativity in thought process as well as problem solving situations, consulting skills, leadership qualities, credibility, self-confidence
  • Works well under high pressure, high demand environment with cross-cultural, cross-geographical collaboration
  • Should have a proven track record of influencing others and be able to work with minimal guidance
  • ITIL Foundation certificate is an advantage
  • Project management skills are an advantage
  • Experience in an international environment is an advantage
  • Knowledge of HPE processes and products is an advantage


SAN / Storage Engineer – specific skills:

  • Min. 3 years of SAN/Storage solution design experience
  • Min. 3 years of technical expertise in block and/or file storage systems (HPE 3PAR, NetApp FAS, Hitachi, ...)
  • Min. 3 years technical expertise in FC SANs (mainly B-series) including Director class switches
  • Min. 3 years of SAN/Storage operations and management experience including administration, troubleshooting, performance analysis, tuning, migrations
  • Trained in SAN/Storage administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, solution design
  • Knowledge of 3PAR and EVA is a must
  • Expertise in administration of one or more operating systems (Linux, Windows, VMware), preferably Linux, is an advantage
  • Expertise in automation (CSA, Operations Orchestration, HPSA, Chef) or programming/scripting (Perl, Python, shell) is an advantage
  • Experience with security certificates (PCI, SOC2, FedRAMP), standards, audits and remediation of security vulnerabilities is advantage
