Job description, responsibilities and duties

Planning, Teaching and Class Management

In delivery of German throughout the whole School:
• Primary German Year 3-6 follow Key Stage 1 & 2 of the English National Curriculum (ENC). Assessment at KS3 is criterion-related using the BISB (NAE) 4-point scale, with progress targeted and tracked at regular intervals.
• Years 7 to 9 follow Key Stage 3 of the English National Curriculum (ENC). Assessment at KS3 is criterion-related using the BISB (NAE) 4-point scale, with progress targeted and tracked at regular intervals.
• Years 10 and 11 prepare for the IGCSE German Foreign Language (0520) as offered by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
• Years 12 and 13 prepare for the IB German Diploma at both Standard Level and Higher Level.
• Target setting and tracking using CEM data takes place at IGCSE and IB in collaboration with form tutors.
It would be expected that the successful candidate would have:
• Excellent communication, organisational and classroom management skills, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
• A genuine interest in the all-round welfare of students is essential as is being able to work independently and as a member of a team.
• As well as teaching, the colleague would be expected to develop assessments, contribute to schemes of work, keep detailed student records and contribute to the development of the department in all areas (such as reviewing and improving the KS3
Programme of study and creating new resources.)

Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting
• Use performance data to evaluate students' progress and set appropriate targets for improvement;
• Use assessment to inform planning and teaching;
• Report on progress to all stakeholders;

Pastoral Duties
• Be a form tutor to an assigned group of students;
• Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students and of the Form Tutor Group as a whole;
• Liaise with the Pastoral Leader to ensure the implementation of
the school's pastoral system;
• Register students, accompany them to assemblies, encourage their attendance at all lessons and their participation in other
aspects of school life;
• Contribute to the preparation of Action Plans and progress files and other reports;
• Alert appropriate staff to problems experienced by students and make recommendations as to how these may be resolved;
• Communicate, as appropriate, with parents of students and persons or bodies outside the school concerned with the welfare of individual students, after consultation with appropriate staff;
• Contribute to PSHE and citizenship and enterprise according to school policy

Other Professional Requirements
• Ideas and initiatives are welcomed, and the department meets regularly to share ideas and resources and hold mini CPD sessions.
• A willingness to take part in German-related extra-curricular activities and competitions, both locally and internationally, would also be expected.

• Experience of delivering a UK National Curriculum and/or the IB Diploma (desirable)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
