About the Role

You will:

- Individually produce contracts, provide technical advice relative to review of client proposed wordings, and draft traditional reinsurance treaty documents for - and work closely with - Client Managers and functional experts (FEs) in Marketing Actuarial/Pricing/Costing, Business Services, Products, Claims, Underwriting, Legal & Compliance, IT Governance, Technical Accounting, etc. to ensure that all required information is captured and to obtain clarification and understanding of requested work.

- Serve as a trained resource for both external clients and internal partners to steer contractual issues to resolution then meet expectations with respect to quality and turnaround time (TaT) of advice and deliverables, e.g., standard treaty provisions and rationale, develop/recommend alternative wording, assist in complex wordings negotiations with clients and product development, and conduct trainings.

- Initiate and facilitate effective collaboration via continuous dialogue between us and the clients to garner 'buy-in' and consensus among parties; establish rapport and long-term relationships with external contacts for assigned client accounts.

- Negotiate directly with clients as delegated by Client Manager - via phone/visits - for explanation, clarification, and defense of terms as vital, follow-up with clients/CM/FEs to achieve favourable resolution prior to execution and enhance the client experience and ease of doing business (EoDB) with SR as reflected in surveys relative to the contract negotiation process.

- Maintain strong governance risk and control standards in wordings and processes; support the development and implementation of guidelines for local Contracts processes and contribute to our global initiatives; apply a continuous process improvement (CPI) mentality; look for simplification / alignment opportunities; actively participate as needed in the development and maintenance of our model wordings.

- Work with the team to maintain existing and develop new tools, systems, and processes, including the Contracts Digital Transformation project.

- Maintain awareness of emerging issues, problematic clauses, and provide related guidance.

Personality requirements and skills

About You

- Legal background / training or familiarity with our reinsurance contract provisions; law degree preferred but not required

- Fluency in English and French required; any other European language (German / Italian) a plus

- Professional experience (minimum 2+ years) in legal and/or contract law within the re/insurance industry and related markets

- Understanding of Life and Health (L&H) products, risks, controls, governance, business unit functions and processes (e.g., claims, reinsurance administration, underwriting, actuarial)

- Strong ability to analyze reinsurance wordings and apply contract principles, taking a pragmatic approach to solving problems

- Effective negotiation, influencing, training and change management skills

- Detail oriented; excellent organizational and time management skills; quick learner; ability to set appropriate priorities, work independently, productively, and efficiently

- Visible confidence in a group setting

- Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, and presentation skills

- Creative, innovative, analytical, and conceptual skills; a great teammate
