Job description, responsibilities and duties

As Legal Counsel in the EMEA Advisory Team you will provide legal services pertaining to the day to day operations of Swiss Re in Slovakia and across the EMEA region. This involves identifying, managing and controlling legal risks, implementing efficient legal processes, and establishing and maintaining relationships with internal partners and management as well as external authorities and regulators.

You will be expected to:

- Be a trusted partner to the Country President/ Location Head and Reinsurance and Operations teams in Bratislava, providing timely, quality legal advice and clearly articulating legal risks and opportunities
- Lead and collaborate on the legal aspects of projects and strategic initiatives within the EMEA region, working together with Legal and Compliance colleagues and other functions
- Review and draft legal documents, conduct research, perform legal analysis, and handle disputes and local investigations
- Actively manage potential legal risks, including monitoring legal developments, actioning changes, and providing training and reporting
- Liaise with regulators and state authorities as needed
- Retain outside legal counsel, including instructing and relationship management, and supporting the wider EMEA team on matters of outside counsel engagement

In this role you will report to the Head of EMEA Advisory, based in Zürich.

We are a multi-jurisdictional team composed of legal counsels based in locations across EMEA, coordinating and providing legal support to our operations and reinsurance business activities in the region.

Our team is part of the Legal Reinsurance EMEA team in the Legal & Compliance Division.

Personality requirements and skills

Are you up for the challenge? We encourage your application if you:

- Are a Slovak qualified lawyer with Slovak bar exam and a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in a top tier law firm or relevant in-house position. You speak and draft fluently in English, and ideally also speak other European languages. It is an advantage if you already have international experience.
- Have strong research and drafting skills (legal advice, opinions, contractual documents, etc). You are experienced in case/ project management. You have excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Enjoy working on multiple projects in parallel and coordinating complex assignments across multidisciplinary teams and multiple jurisdictions.
- Are confident to drive matters independently. You demonstrate leadership and accountability, and resilience and flexibility when facing challenges. You are fully reliable, responsive and have high energy. You are open-minded, collaborative, and act with utmost integrity.
- Are recognised by clients for the pragmatic advice you provide, your flexibility and solution-orientation, and by colleagues for being an excellent team mate, happy to assist others and for your good sense of humour.
