Job description, responsibilities and duties

Responsibilities & Key Tasks:
- Involvement in and driving of machine learning projects
- Data extraction, preparation, transformation
- Design and implementation of production-grade solutions, supporting the team that implements the in-production solution in the hand-over process
- Integration of technical solutions into business contexts
- Communication with internal and external clients and communication of technical content to a business audience
- Agile project management and working with cross-functional and/or virtual teams

About the Team

Digital and Smart Analytics (DSA) is Swiss Re's data science team with a focus on service orientation and practical solutions. DSA implements Swiss Re`s Technology Strategy and supports its business functions in generating insights and creating data driven products & solutions.

We are seeking a candidate in Bratislava with passion for technology to join our highly skilled global team. You will work with colleagues from various countries across different locations (Zurich, New York, Bangalore, Singapore, Beijing, Hong Kong, …) who contribute in developing analytics services and solutions in tight collaboration with business clients.

In our daily work, we understand problems of our business clients and help them to ideate and implement innovative solutions. This involves a broad range of tasks from gaining in-depth knowledge in various areas of (re-) insurance, the translation of business problems into technical and data science problems as well as solving machine learning and statistical tasks and implementing solutions so that they can be employed by our customers in their everyday work. These tasks are as varied as the fields we work in: predicting the danger of natural catastrophes, modeling life expectancy, analysing customer portfolios, automating the extraction of information from textual data and much more.

Personality requirements and skills

Technical Requirements:
- Degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics,
Statistics or related quantitative field
- Analytical problem-solving skills and ability to assimilate complex information. Interest in learning new techniques and personal improvement.
- Knowledge in languages and techniques like R, Python, SQL, NOSQL, PowerBI
- English language skills
- Interest and prior knowledge in machine learning, statistical modeling and related technologies
- Interest in building and deploying innovative solutions involving machine learning
- Specific knowledge of/experience in the insurance/financial field is an additional advantage

Advantageous Additional Skills:
- Background in software engineering (e.g. agile programming, project organization)
- Experience in distributed computing (e.g. Spark)
- Experience with geographic modeling or processing of geo-data
- Knowledge of Text Mining, Natural Language Processing and related technology platforms and tools
