Job Description
Reporting to the Finance Manager and responsible for VAT and Intrastat preparation, reporting, filing and compliance for EMEA entities.

Specific Responsibilities
• Preparation and filing of regular VAT Returns in accordance with local filing regulations.
• Reporting and filing of monthly Intrastat (Dispatches, Arrivals) returns.
• Ensure there is accuracy in all VAT and Intrastat reporting and all regulatory filing deadlines are adhered to.
• Investigate unusual accounting entries, verify accuracy of VAT coding, co-ordinate with the Accounts Payable function and/or other functions to discover root cause and implement corrective actions and processes.
• Prepare and review month-end VAT account reconciliations.
• Prepare and post VAT journals as required.
• Assist in the mapping of VAT/Intrastat processes and identify areas for improvement and automation.
• Ensure internal controls around VAT/Intrastat processes are maintained and provide internal and external audit support.
• Manage third party relationships with auditors, tax advisors, consulting companies and local VAT/Tax authorities as required.
• Support the supply chain team on import and export VAT and customs duty related issues.
• Assist with VAT registrations in new territories and/or as result of business changes and implement local reporting, filing and compliance processes.
• Assist the finance team with VAT payments/repayments forecasts for cashflow purposes and in cases of local tax authority VAT/Intrastat audits.
• Monitor and report on regulatory and legislative regimes, identifying potential tax issues or consequences and advise management of effective solutions.
• Participate in cross-functional projects as needed

Personality requirements and skills

Required Skill Set
• Strong experience in Indirect Taxes compliance across EMEA region gained in-house in a similar industry (Consumer Goods/ Retail Industry)
• Strong experience in systems including SAP and MS Office tools
• Strong accounting, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English with the ability to explain complex tax issues in a clear and concise manner are a must
• Good knowledge of another European language is an advantage (German, French, Italian, or Dutch)
• Ability to take ownership of the process and implement change
• Ability to take Initiative and pays attention to details
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
• Works well with team or independently

Required Qualifications & Experience
• A recognized accounting or tax qualification (ACCA, ACA, ATT, CTA or similar)
• Related University or College qualifications
• Min 5 years of experience in VAT advisory or VAT compliance function with a good grasp of VAT and Intrastat knowledge in a mid to large sized company
• Experience with Consumer Goods/ Retail Industry preferred
• Experience in manipulating and analyzing large volumes of data and report writing
