Information about the position

Job description, responsibilities and duties

The main role of VAT Accountant is to oversee all processes related to the recovery of domestic and foreign input VAT in connection with travel expenses and accounts payables invoices, primarily within the MEU region, and to ensure timely and accurate internal and external reporting. This role contributes to the delivery of cost-effective and efficient finance Shared Services by carrying out Financial Management activities.

Main responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely recovery of foreign VAT in accordance with local VAT laws, company policies and procedures. This requires the incumbent to
1. Independently take appropriate actions in order to resolve potential issues related to domestic and foreign VAT claims
2. Understand the Mondelez legal and organizational structure
3. Act as first point of contact for our external service provider in all matters related to foreign and domestic VAT recovery and support the provider to prepare and obtain all legal and transactional documents required to submit VAT recovery claims on behalf of Mondelēz International companies
4. Communicate directly with external partners (mainly vendors and local tax authorities) as well as internal colleagues on various hierarchy levels, in order to actively solve potential queries in connection with foreign and domestic VAT claims
5. Analyze domestic VAT recovery reports and ensure accurate reporting in the VAT returns of the respective companies
6. Archiving of all documents/reports prepared by EBSC related to foreign VAT recovery according to statutory/tax retention period
  • Develop strategies and implement processes to maximize recoverable VAT
  • Identify new areas/countries where VAT can be recovered
  • Manage cash flow processes related to VAT refunds, and allocation, distribution and postings of the cash receipts to the correct legal entities
  • Supporting of projects related to input VAT recovery, and organize or execute appropriate testing
  • Advice colleagues in the field of foreign VAT recovery
  • Monitor invoice and service receipts from the external service provider and manage the settlement/payment process.
  • Payment approvals for VAT liabilities payments
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of VAT return and other related reports of EBSC

1. Regular reporting on the statuses to line manager
2. Be aware of other processes performed within the central VAT team in order to act as a back-up in specific situations
3. Perform other tasks either related to the job or as assigned by direct manager.

Personality requirements and skills

  • University Degree in Economics or similar and min 3+years’ experience in accounting and/or VAT.
  • Sound understanding of accounting procedures, GAAP principles and financial processes.
  • Proficient in MS Office – Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Outstanding Interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) must be fluent in English
  • Action oriented, proactive and resourceful in solving problems
