Role Overview:
At the Holcim European Business Center a position for a Senior VAT Compliance Specialist is open.
The Senior VAT Compliance Specialist will report to the Head of Indirect Tax EMEA based in Kosice and will become a member of our global tax community. The newly formed department is part of the Global Tax Organization & Global Business Center. The department’s responsibilities include indirect tax compliance, technology, controversy and advisory in the EMEA region.

The position is an excellent job opportunity for a professional interested in supporting the regional VAT transition project conducted in close cooperation with the Global Business Center and the Country Finance teams. The Senior VAT Compliance Specialist shall provide support to the department in performing process activities and in building VAT expertise within the Global Business Services mainly in the area of VAT compliance.

We are open to candidates with various levels of experience (from specialist up to senior expert level).

Main responsibilities:
- Obtain a good understanding of EMEA VAT compliance activities (VAT, ECSPL, SAF-T, Intrastat) & processes at the country level
- Prepare and update EMEA VAT transition documentation (questionnaires, procedures, work instructions)
- Extract ERP reports (VAT, Intrastat, GL VAT accounts balances, other country specific reports)
- Review the data and perform standardized checks and ad-random checks to detect potential issues and discrepancies
- Prepare GL Balance Sheet VAT accounts reconciliation
- Prepare and file indirect tax returns (VAT, ECSPL, SAF-T, Intrastat)
- Focus on bringing added value via detecting potential risks, process issues, inconsistencies during work shadowing, parallel and post go-live phases of the transition project
- Cooperate closely with the Business Centre in India to pass over VAT processes and to build together a strong VAT compliance subfunction
- Built excellent working relationships with the local finance teams
- Assist on (VAT) audits and on providing response to VAT inquiries
- Maintain central archive of all VAT related compliance data
- Cooperate closely with the regional Process Automation department and the VAT Advisor
- Support coordination/cooperation with IT on the maintenance and update of ERP tables and parameters

Possibility of fully remote work with occasional travels to Kosice, approx 25% travelling to the countries of EU.

University education (Master's degree)
Postgraduate (Doctorate)

Required experience


Personality requirements and skills

- Min 3 years’ experience in the General Ledger department (SSC) or/and Min 2 year experience in the VAT department (European SSC, or/and local consultancy company, or/and Big 4 company, or/and in-house)
- Practical understanding of the VAT principles and VAT processes
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Fluent English written and spoken (B2 level or higher)
- Knowledge of SAP ERP will be a strong asset
- Good knowledge of MS Excel
- Ability to develop professional and strong relationships with key internal stakeholders
- Proactive attitude, reliability, responsiveness & delivery
- Readiness for occasional travels abroad (max up to 25%)
- Experience in VAT or/and GL process transition/migration projects will be an asset, but not required
- Understanding of SSC processes will be an asset but not required
