About the position

Job description, responsibilities and duties

ING's global COO Control Office is looking for an experienced Control Consultant.

As Control Consultant you take either an operational, tactical or strategic view of ING Bank’s global internal control environment. You will work proactively with senior management and value chain owners to design and implement solutions to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the internal control environment in an international context.
You will contribute to the design and implement ING Bank’s strategy on internal control, in line with competitive and market practices. You are able to identify strategic capabilities that will support and increase knowledge sharing and replication of internal control best practices within ING Bank globally.
You will contribute to the development of control frameworks aligned with ING Bank’s Policies and Minimum Standards and business processes and contribute to the development of innovative and automated key control testing procedures.
From an operational point of view you will provide hands-on support in identifying control weaknesses and (support) the implementation of control structures globally.

As a Control Consultant you will be based in Bratislava and work as part of the global (Tier2) COO Control Office team. The global COO Control Office was newly established in 2014 to further optimise and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the internal control environment in the 1st line of Defence. The main aim of the COO Control Office is to develop and maintain a framework for improving the efficiency and effectiveness ING’s internal control environment and to provide hands-on support to implement this framework through the network of ING Bank globally.

Working in the global COO Control Office, you will be operating in the very heart of the ING Bank COO organisation. The complexity of the assignments and the international setting requires for you to cooperate in and with the international network of ING. No day will be the same!

Personality requirements and skills

As a Control Consultant you are skilled, professionally sceptic, knowledgeable and solution oriented. You have in-depth knowledge of internal control structures and preferably have an in-depth understanding of administrative organisation and internal control (AO/IC). You pro-actively share your knowledge and experience with management and staff across value chains and countries.

Please, apply if you have the following:
  • Academic degree (certification in Internal Control is a big advantage);
  • 6 to 15 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the areas of Financial Markets and/or Lending and/or (International) Payments and Trade Finance;
  • Fluency in English;
  • International experience in complex organisations and (knowledge of ING’s business processes, risks and associated controls is a big advantage)
  • Proven communication, negotiation and advisory skills with the ability to work at all levels in the organisation (a track record in project management is advantageous);

Additionally, you:
  • Built bridges by nature and are able to bridge between different levels, different people and different cultures
  • Are persuasive; being able to ‘get people on board’ and ensure necessary buy-in from stakeholders
  • Are a hands-on team player; and
  • Are willing to travel at least 8 - 12 weeks per year
