Our opportunity

Contribute to and advise on the development of applications by understanding the requirements of customers and recommending application performance improvements, to ensure alignment with business requirements.
The candidate will be expected to act as a technical design authority on the project - by defining the right IT architecture, adhering to the guidelines (or creating them if they are missing), and guiding the developer team from the technical perspective.
On the experience side, we would like to see 6+ years in the technical positions, preferably across more than one technology and more than one role (e.g. supporter -> developer -> project lead or senior consultant).

 
Your role

Essential Job Functions: 
* Understand customers’ processes and products and how they fit within the goals of the function or business unit. 
* Engage with the solution architect in the reviews and validation of the detailed technical design for business applications provided by the supplier to ensure alignment with business requirements; validate suppliers estimates. 
* Estimate Rough Order of Magnitude for the level of effort/cost of new application functionality. 
* Perform quality review checks on project deliverables. 
* Support, review and validate the documentation of functional specifications. 
* Make recommendations for application performance improvements. 
* Make recommendations for application de-commissioning. 
* Act as liaison between Business and IT, as assigned. 
* Support the Portfolio Manager in building the Business Case, including cost / benefit analysis, risk assessment, project scope, and development of a high level plan. 
* Support the implementation activities, troubleshooting system environmental issues providing training as required 
* Perform impact analysis of application changes across various components holding an end-to-end view of the system. 
* Specify / recommend Integration and Parallel testing criteria. 
* Take responsibility for the conceptual design of business applications. 
* Mentor lower level colleagues. 
* Identify complex root cause of an issue within an application in support of application incidents.

Business Accountabilities: 
* Work with business stakeholders, colleagues across the wider IT function and cross-functionally to translate business objectives into clearly defined business cases, costs or financial schedules in order to support achievement of IT and business accountabilities. 
* Analyze key themes from a wide range of internal and external data sources in order to identify IT industry developments as well as how different scenarios may impact upon the business, and provide recommendations based on this analysis. 
* Contribute to the development of processes and lead the implementation of systems and process improvements in infrastructure, architecture, ensuring IT solutions align with medium-term business objectives and looking ahead to understand future technology options for the business. 
* Provide technical guidance and recommendations as a subject matter expert in relevant area of IT, in order to support the resolution of the most complex customer cases and develop precedents to improve customer service. 
* Manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships across the organization in order to achieve engagement to change, and provide technical leadership in the design and development of new IT solutions. 
* Ensure that IT requirements in own area of specialism are properly addressed in projects, and ensure delivery of assigned IT projects or work streams are successful, collaborating with IT colleagues from across the wider function to deliver for the business. 
* Deploy in-depth knowledge in a functional area of IT to support internal clients by responding to requests and issues, acting within a number of complex processes and procedures to solve internal customer problems in conjunction with internal partners or external vendors. 
* Create Disaster Recovery and Business Change plans in relevant area of IT, and input into wider Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning and policy.

Your Skills and Experience
 
As a Solution Designer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
* Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology, IT Economics or Math/Physics  and 6 or more years of experience in related field.
* At least 3 year experience in Application architecture and design in minimum 2 of the following technologies: DB2, Informatica, SAP BW/BPC/IP, Microstrategy, Informatica Data Quality, Hadoop, Tibco Spotfire, Tableau
