Job description, responsibilities and duties

Position Summary:

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for planning, coordinating and directing Supplier Quality Management activities as related to the manufacturing commodities.

Your responsibilities will include initial selection/approval of new suppliers, ongoing new parts sourcing from approved suppliers, supplier quality performance monitoring/reporting, and the deployment of corrective/improvement actions.

Essential Functions:

Develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive Supplier Quality Management process to ensure acceptable quality and cost of purchased materials, components and/or services.
Provide subject matter support to other internal functions (projects, manufacturing, engineering, supply chain) in the selection, approval and sustaining of Suppliers/Contract Manufacturers, including but not limited to initial evaluation and quality/process audits, while assisting new product introductions as well as volume manufacturing operations.
Monitor Supplier/Contract Manufacturer Quality Performance to identify opportunities for improvement and coordinate the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives at suppliers/contract manufacturers.
Facilitate the deployment of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) in response to internal quality issues as well as customer complaints through the coordination of cross-functional teams.
Lead team of Quality Control Technicians and ensure proper communication flow, action and broader understanding of high quality standards.

Personality requirements and skills

Education/Experience:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred)
● Master’s Degree in related field advantage, 5+ years experience in related field

● Demonstrated excellence in the Quality field including Supplier Quality Engineering in a development & manufacturing environment, preferably in highly regulated area (medical devices, automotive)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
• Experience with Supplier Management methodologies is a MUST, including approval/qualification of new suppliers/parts through the use of weighted selection criteria and PPAP (Production Parts Approval Plan)
• A deep understanding of product technologies and manufacturing processes for plastic commodities, experience with plastic moulding and extrusion, chemical substances
• Working knowledge of ISO9001/TS16949 framework, including associated requirements, such as: Design and Process FMEA, PPAP, and Control Plan
• Proficient in Quality processes and problem solving techniques/tools
• Experience with statistics and statistical tools
• Experience operating in a Lean manufacturing environment and associated techniques
• Presentation and project management skills
• Ability to oversee several concurrent projects under high pressure
• Excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal)
• Excellent English language skills (written and verbal)
• People and leadership skills to interface with multiple internal functions and external parties (suppliers, contract manufacturers)
• Assertiveness
• Self-driven/motivated with minimum supervision required
• Domestic and international travel (20-40%)
