Job description, responsibilities and duties

Your primary responsibility will be to administrate company`s Analytical Big Data Platform, ensuring operational stability towards internal clients. Being part of a team of data integrators, you will support the team in resolving problems associated with the distributed data processing pipelines, and also support the team in coding the data acquisition and integration solutions.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Administrate, maintain, design, and optimize the Hadoop ecosystem on which our Analytical Big Data Platform operates
- Ensure monitoring of health, uptime and system alerts on Production and Research Platform (excluding 24x7 monitoring, which is provided by the underlying infrastructure service)
- Apply application updates and upgrades to the platform
- Ensure securing and hardening of operating systems and software dependencies as per specifications and general industry best practices in close collaboration with our infrastructure provider
- Develop and maintain scripts to automate tasks and deployments across clusters and stages
- Work closely with the immediate team, as well as the virtual team of Big Data Platform administrators, to ensure continuous improvement of infrastructure, components, and processes
- Support the implementation activities, troubleshooting of system environmental issues.
- Support Data Integrators in troubleshooting problems associated with distributed data processing pipelines (as might occur from coding, or inefficient use of processing and storage resources), training as required
- Engage with the solution architect in the reviews and validation of the detailed technical design for business applications provided by the supplier to ensure alignment with business requirements; validate suppliers estimates
- Support use of testing environments and testing processes to ensure that all changes will not break existing functionality
- Understand customers’ processes and products and how they fit within the goals of the function or business unit
- Work with colleagues across the IT function to ensure plans and policies are aligned and best practices of administrating the Big Data Analytical platform are shared
- Performs impact analysis and effort estimates of application changes across various components holding an end-to-end view of the system.
- Supports the planning of Integration and
- testing by specifying and recommending test criteria
- Look externally as well as for existing IT assets (re-use) to research primary data sources, select relevant information, continually evaluate key themes in technology make recommendations to inform policy and/or product development in own area of IT
- Provide specialist advice to address specific technical queries from internal clients
- Take part in coding the acquisition and integration of data from a variety of data sources to support our global initiatives.
- Act within a number of complex processes and procedures in an international environment, and use in-depth knowledge to solve internal customer issues or escalate appropriately to manager, internal partners or external vendors
- Primary work location is Bratislava, nevertheless the role will require a 3-4 month relocation for the induction period
- May require occasional travelling afterwards, dependent on scope or type of project

English - Upper intermediate (B2)

Personality requirements and skills

- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology and 4 or more years of experience in related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Linux/Unix system administration (Expert Level)
- Experience administering and managing a server cluster sitting in a remote location
- English: Able to actively take part in meetings and discussions, able to give information about own area of expertise and to deliver recommendations
- Strong documentation and communication skills
- Strong ability to aggregate complex technical details to the conceptual level
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Good level of Hadoop ecosystem components and administration (preferably Hortonworks distribution)
- Experience working with a Big Data Management platform
- Experience with monitoring and optimizing Hadoop clusters
- Experience with systems management tools such as puppet or cfengine
- Experience configuring systems for use with one of the major database packages
- Good interpersonal skills as team member as well as towards internal customers
- Good knowledge of information technology to be able to achieve feasible solutions
- Very diligent work style, ensuring correctness of resulting solution
- Experience with server virtualization a plus
- Good team player, working in a distributed, diverse environment
- Interested in learning about Corporate Insurance business and key financials
