Job description, responsibilities and duties

Job purpose:

The resident engineer represents customer on-site at the host to ensure sure that the customer’s products meet the exact specifications of the contract, and that all work is accurately noted and reported. This includes interacting with various levels of host engineering and management to resolve issues and ensure flawless production. The resident engineer will apply advanced problem solving, engineering skills and knowledge to identify risks and create risk mitigation plans to resolve production and product quality deficiencies, support trouble shooting activities of quality issues during root cause analysis problem solving activity. The resident engineer will oversee production deliverables throughout the mission ensuring the product meets or exceeds host’s needs and expectations in order to decrease non-quality consequences, and maximise the satisfaction of OEM.

Core responsibilities:

1) Liaison
• Function as liaison, keeping lines of communication open between customer and host
• Immediate communication before complaint registered
• Work closely with customer & host quality management team (e.g. engineering, manufacturing, supplier quality, purchasing, program management, etc.) to spread/support host quality concern resolution
• Recognize and escalate quality issues appropriately within organization and according to severity

2) Incident management
• Visual analyse on NOK part (comparing OK part) or technical analyse (e.g. root cause analysis) on claimed part + NOK/OK part replacement
• Follow up/confirmation of customer quality condition, verify defect occurrence and ensure clear problem description is captured on document as well as the applicable standard per inspection standard and/or print specification
• Non-conformity management (problem detection, information collection, timely, accurate and relevant information transfer to the customer)

3) Containment management
• Implement and manage containment measures (pre- sorting on demand, pre-rework on demand) in order to maintain FIFO
• On demand 100% quality control (sorting) + proactive sample sized inspection (AQL)

4) Advanced support activities
• General understanding of automotive quality tools
• Investigate quality issues at host site and facilitate communication between customer and host, regarding all matters of concern related to quality and shipping (KPI) utilizing applicable inspection standards
• Support corrective action development
• Represent the "voice of the customer" at host and maintain / improve customer’s reputation
• On demand regular visits / trainings to customers’ site(s) to continuously develop/improve understanding of parts and processes

5) Other support
• Knowledge of customer products: product specification, production processes flow, final inspection, occurred defects and boundary samples
• Understand and use customer’s and host’s problem solving methods
• Use different methods to support quick decisions (first level functional test, limit sample comparison, laboratory analyses on demand, precision measurement on demand)

Personality requirements and skills

Education and / or experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or equivalent
• 3 years automotive experience in quality, engineering or customer project teams
• Exposure to / experience in project management, production and / or quality in the automotive industry
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in German language (English is a must)
• Intercultural experience or experience with international project teams
• Basic knowledge: 8D / 5-Why / Ishikawa Diagram / 5S
• Good communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to communicate engineering details from shop floor level to high level presentations
