Information about the position

Job description, responsibilities and duties

Would you like to be involved in the decision-making during the modeling and costing of the risk and explore the dynamic world of underwriting? Do you want to work in a stimulating and fun environment with extraordinary colleagues and generous benefits? Are you passionate about learning new things?

Imagine, a representative of the biggest American fast food restaurant, or the most famous French car producer, or a British supermarket chain asks Swiss Re to insure all its property worldwide. That would include buildings from little offices and warehouses to big factories and power plants, with all the stock and equipment inside. Every such property is for us a row in an Excel sheet, its location means an exact pin on the map.

Our role is to calculate the expected losses caused by fire or natural catastrophes. We work closely with the underwriters, experts and other departments to produce the risk assessment of a client's portfolio of buildings, other property and loss of income.
These are the main tasks that we perform on daily basis:
• Interpret and adjust non-standard submission data in Microsoft Excel for the risk to be appropriately modeled
• Identify the type of the client's property by reviewing the documents and doing an additional research
• Reflect insurance policy terms and conditions into the costing tools
• Assess risk through our costing models, interpret results and form recommendations for the underwriter
• Be able to prioritize workload in order to meet the deadlines and accuracy requirements
• Own responsibility for timeliness, correctness of any entered figures and individual assumptions made throughout the process
• Support underwriting teams with any other business related tasks and participate in projects or current initiatives
• Offer cross-team support to teams whose core task is entering and maintaining information in systems and tools

About the team
We are a team of around fifteen Underwriting Associates (Costing Specialists) who interact closely with the Property Underwriters in Swiss Re offices in Europe, Middle East and Africa. We like to challenge the status quo and improve every single day. We believe that common sense and real passion for work value more than trained skill. If you share our values, we will be thrilled to welcome you in our team.
