Being part of Legal& Compliance division, Group Intellectual Property is managing and protecting Swiss Re's know-how, innovations, products, software, publications and brands. Swiss Re is a knowledge company and by safeguarding its IP from the onset, Group IP ensures the continuity and quality of our company's services. Its protection guarantees our company's freedom to operate independently of third parties today and in the future.

The key objective of the Legal Counsel in Group IP is to take care of IP related queries in general. The Legal Counsel will report to the Head of Group IP.

The Legal Counsel will work closely with the local counsel based in Bratislava and as a result, the candidate should be comfortable working in a decentralized organizational structure that will require significant organizational and collaboration skills.

The Legal Counsel will work with various global stakeholders and Group IP's clients.

Take care of IP related queries: various copyright issues, trademark matters and IP contracts in particular, including trademark clearances, prosecution, monitoring and enforcing Swiss Re's brands, open source licensing, domain name issues and providing regular updates for Group IP's clients. Assist colleagues within Legal & Compliance with setting up and reviewing IP contracts, including confidentiality agreements, trademark and software licences. Dealing with external vendors and counsels. Leading various L&C projects and initiatives.

Requirements for the employee

Candidates with education suit the position

University education (Master's degree)
Postgraduate (Doctorate)

Language skills

English - Upper intermediate (B2)

Personality requirements and skills

Qualifications and experience:
• Qualified Lawyer (preferably admitted to the Bar Association as Attorney-at-law), preferably with a specialization in IP
• Preferably 8 years of total work experience, in-house or in a law firm dealing with IP

Desired knowledge requirements:
• IP laws and regulations, IP compliance, IP dispute resolution
• UDRP/URS and domain names laws/policies understanding
• ICANN New gTLDs understanding
• DNS understanding,
• OSS licenses knowledge
• Trademarks registrations procedures and collisions understanding
• Copyright and Contract Law (continental and common-law systems)

Skill requirements:
• Self-starter with a proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and the flexibility to handle a variety of tasks

• Fluent English is required, German or another language is a plus
