Information about the position
Job description, responsibilities and duties
The Accounting & Closing L&H team is responsible for the quarterly financial closing for external US GAAP and Statutory valuation for our reinsurance entities in Europe. The core mandate is the closing of the technical L&H sub ledgers for all relevant valuations which includes external and intra-group business. The team also contributes to the quarterly EVM (Economic Value Management) reporting.
We are now looking for Accountants interested in our core business activities (P&C and L&H reinsurance) with an affinity to systems (BIS, LFD, RIC) and processes in a controlled environment. Your primary responsibility is to support the team in the quarterly closing activities for US GAAP and Statutory with a focus on reconciliations between the different valuation layers and on executing all relevant controls to ensure accuracy of balance sheet and income statement. As part of the L&H Accounting & Closing team mainly located in Zurich you will also be involved in ad hoc tasks and L&H improvement initiatives.
Key Business Responsibilities:
- Support efficient and effective reconciliation process across all valuations
- Perform accounting and reporting entries in the various financial systems (SICSnt, LFD) for L&H IGR (Intra-group) business. Provide IGR reconciliations on group level as well as on individual carrier level.
- Review IGR figures and ensure that IGR accounting is consistent and compliant with the accounting principles (US Gaap and Local Statutory).
- Ensure integrity, accuracy and completeness of LFD & BIS
- Development and production of regular reports and analysis
- Maintain control environment by performing checks, investigating and cleaning up data as required
- Respond to queries in an efficient and professional manner
- Support Accounting and Closing L&H unit's role in the economic valuation management process (EVM)
- Act as contact for any process or control related inquiries for different valuations and for different stakeholders including internal and external audit
- Manage own workload effectively to achieve agreed service/ business standards
- Undertake necessary learning to develop current and new areas of competence e.g. LFD, Closing Directs, EVM etc
- Support on any other close activities and ad hoc work or project

- University of Applied Science or university graduate with a primary degree in Finance/Commerce
- Minimum 3 years Finance or Accounting experience
- Insurance or Reinsurance knowledge an advantage
- Self-motivated and proven track record of working independently
- Knowledge of US GAAP desirable
- Strong process & control orientation to enable delivery of quality output with tight deadlines
- Willingness to develop an understanding of Swiss Re systems architecture for L&H business across all valuations – knowledge of BIS, SICSnt and RIC an advantage
- Strong computer skills – Lotus Notes/Word/Excel/SQL/Access/Pivot tables
- Open and trustful communication
- Good interpersonal and analytical skills, team player
- Fluent in English, German language skills are a plus.
