Job Description
Life & Health IT Application Management Services is responsible for managing the day-to-day system operations and production support for the L&H application landscape. The L&H Senior Application Engineer will report directly to the London-based L&H IT Application Manager and will be involved with oversight and coordination of Incident and Problem Management, Application Monitoring, System status communication to the Business, Application Documentation, Vendor Management and ensures adherence to Service Level Agreements.
In this position, the person is responsible for supporting a local team of production support personnel and coordinating with a complement offshore team. The definition and the subsequent successful and timely implementation of operational processes, ad hoc production problem resolution, management of production environments and providing support to other regional business and application management staff, currently located in Armonk, Bangalore, Fort Wayne, London, Toronto and Zurich. The person will provide overall technical support while collaborating with a variety of global Swiss Re teams and leveraging vendor partnerships. Activities will cover all solution development lifecycle phases, from technical analysis, design, development, quality assurance to production induction and support.
Key skills include the ability to bring ideas from concept to reality and being able to communicate effectively to all stakeholders. The key responsibilities would be:
- Support Service Transition Agreements
- Provide Application Maintenance Services documentation, including operational run books and service level agreements for a suite of LH applications: BoF, Quote Tracker, LifeDoc, Claims Workflow Manager, Treaty Manager, Magnum, as well as local UK legacy applications
- Oversight control of Level 2 (L2 / Incident Management) processes and transfer groups, consisting of an off / on-shore team of 20 resources.
- Provide Level 3 Production Support (L3 / Problem Management), including incident and problem triage, defining work-arounds and long term solutions
- Translate business requirements into system production solution design and patterns, which enables quality, re-usability, scalability availability and maintainability in accordance with the overall Business Strategy and IT standards
- Collaborate with other teams in defining functionality, scope and time lines
- Present and communicate ideas and design to various teams for review and brainstorming
- Act as operational consultant to development team, assisting them in choosing the most appropriate technical solution for their applications and/or production issues
- Implement long term operational requirements, design solutions and operational efficiency
- Knowledge of L&H Domain and/or lines of business helpful.

- 5+ years of experience in IT industry with strong technical background
- At least 3 years of experience as Application Manager for large scale projects/platforms with integrated systems
- At least 3 years of experience in Java/JEE and related technologies, distributed systems development on Windows / UNIX / LINUX
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Accomplished interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating a clear and articulate standard of written and verbal communication in complex environments
- ITIL Certification
- Ability to manage own workload; self directed
- Strong database and modeling background, with experience in addressing performance issues in large databases
- Well-experienced in SDLC and Agile SCRUM methodologies
- Expertise in standard Workflow tools
- Expertise in Application Security Concept is a must
- Experienced in working with a diverse team of both internal and external professionals
- Effective coaching and mentoring skills
- Effective management skills
- Dedication to provide support to the Business timely, efficiently and professionally
- Innovation with quick work around solutions, while also working on developing optimized permanent solutions
- Diligence in managing documentation requirements
