Job description, responsibilities and duties

The FQE is responsible for the development of manufacturing quality controls, adherence to procedure, response to out of control triggers and systemic factory issues and continuous improvement of shipped quality. Ties all issues to the product record maintaining visibility to stakeholders and feeds deep insight into baseline quality performance (dppm) and issue history into NPI programs and product updates. Participates in product transfer teams and VAVE programs.

  • Develops and maintains Manufacturing Control Plan (MCP) or Product Quality Plan/Process Flow in conjunction with factory engineering ensuring all data collection points are defined with goals, limits, triggers and Response Flow Checklists (RFC).
  • Is the first line responder to factory issues and triggers leading the containment and corrective action response and capturing all information in the appropriate systems typically;
  • Initiation of Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) and internal issue of Corrective Action Request tracker (CAR).
  • Inputs to 8D reports.
  • Prioritizes top improvement opportunities based on factory data, field indicators and CQE notified external issues and audits.
  • Design and sustaining engineering for diagnostics support and corrective action plan/implementation.
  • Represents the Power-One quality management system to visiting Customers, auditors and other external parties as needed with professionally prepared reports on indicators, issues and corrective actions.
  • Provides a thorough data supported analysis of baseline quality performance (dppm) and issue history into NPI programs and product updates and participate in lessons learned extraction.
  • Feeds required interim documents, reports and data on new products as required by new product development deliverables.
  • Conducts thorough First Article of new product manufactured assemblies documenting adherence to specifications and drawings and all omissions, gaps, deviations and noncompliance instances for review in PACE review.
  • Approves ECOs if/when required by ECO and executes all actions assigned.

Personality requirements and skills

  • 2 Years’ experience in a direct factory based engineering role as a manufacturing engineer, sustaining engineer or quality engineer.
  • Structured problem solving approach such as CAPA, 8D, DMAIC.
  • Hands on skills in conducting DOE to identify Critical to Function Parameters (CTFPs).
  • Knowledge of quality standards which pertain to the electronics industry, such as IEC, ISO and IPC.
  • Working familiarity with QMS’s compliant with ISO9001, TS 16949.
  • Lean experience and audit training preferred.
