Job description, responsibilities and duties
NATEK is looking for people motivated to jump into a fast-paced project. Currently we are looking for experienced Telecom Designers for our partner from TELCO industry. This position offers the opportunity to make a major impact on the business communication needs by providing world class telecommunication design capability.
Telecom Designer is expected to design innovative and cost effective solutions that comply with global infrastructure standards for Telecoms to interact globally with other designers, key focal points and with other central IT organizations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design solutions and ensure that the solution(s) put forward leverage specific platforms and services wherever possible
- Prepare cost estimates (inclusive of hardware, services, labor, and operations)
- Specify hardware, configurations and services in detail
- Issue and co-ordinate design documentation and evaluation of supplier proposals
- Understand and communicate global telecom standards
- Conduct operations training and assurance of support
- Prepare comprehensive and complete design documentation
- Provide technical consultancy and support to Telecom Implementation projects
- Prototype proposed solutions
- Work closely with the principal designers and help in defining new technical standards and solutions

Personality requirements and skills
- Specialized knowledge in telecom breadth and/or depth
- Minimum 5 years recent experience in telecom/network design and planning roles
- Project management skills
- Good knowledge of RFP/RFQ processes
- Cisco design skills (at least CCNP/CCDP level, preferably CCIE)
- Develop network designs from high-level architecture, to specific end-to-end component interconnectivity and configuration.
- Conduct and participate in design reviews.
- Interprets network diagrams and documentation.
- Design authority on a broad range of datacoms technologies and protocols. This includes Transmission, WAN , LAN, Security, Wireless.
- Being able to design medium-to-large scalable Enterprise networks and thorough understanding of topologies and routing
- Understanding of the services (Desktop services - including mail, caching, Citrix -, SAP) that use enterprise networks and translate their requirements into detailed network design.
- Can translate high-level security policies into network design.
- Able to provide clear advice to customers and project managers given the constraints of time, resources and budget.
- Able to write a standards document with global scope.
- Understands the balance between flexibility and standardisation and is able to assess the effect on overall TCO.
- Transmission (SDH, DWDM, Frame-relay, ATM) and wireless technologies (WIFI, WIMAX, Microwave).
- Cisco product portfolio and configuration of Cisco products.
- Security components and concepts including firewalls, IDS, IPSEC, PKI.
- Convergence (VOIP, video conferencing, H.323, SIP, Instant Messaging)
- IPT (Nortel, Cisco, Microsoft OCS)
- Routing (BGP, OSPF, PIM, MPLS).
