Job description, responsibilities and duties

- Overall strategic and operational management of the manufacturing sites while providing strong leadership to enable the manufacturing sites to deliver targets to support overall business objectives.
- Budgetary management of all manufacturing related costs; to be able to understand where costs are coming from, where they will be projected to be and to be able to keep spending within budget.
- Liaising directly with Customers at a senior level to deal with issues across the board from looking at potential new business as well as resolving any serious problems that may arise.
- Build and develop relationships at all levels across the manufacturing areas to in order to drive new ideas/initiatives and to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- To work closely with the Engineering Projects team from Research and Development phase to eventual roll out of any new lines into production.
- Have a wider understanding of the business needs from working with the senior management team and to translate how that impacts on the needs of the sites.
- Measuring and monitoring of key performance indicators and other measurable data to ensure progression in line with targets.
- Ensure that Quality and Health & Safety are maintained are maintained as high priorities for the sites and not allowed to slip in the achievement of production targets.
- To ensure sites are achieving and maintaining engineering, quality and health & safety standards as well as complying with all relevant legislation.
- Ensure compliance with TS16949 or customer specific standards, procedures and any other legal requirements.
- Implement and improve lean manufacturing methodologies on site to improve overall site performance.
- Project Management of various different projects as and when required by the business.
Reports to: Operations Director (UK): Senior Management Representative for the Plant, with indirect responsibility for all staff on site.

Postgraduate (Doctorate)

Personality requirements and skills

- Experience of managing large, multi-functional teams (100+ headcount minimum)
- Significant experience of improving the operational performance of a business in terms of profitability, efficiency, quality, OTIF etc.
- Practical experience of the introduction and utilisation of Lean manufacturing principles, (Six Sigma highly desirable.)
- Demonstrable experience of leading and directing change
- Commitment to team working and the training, development and mentoring of a strong operational team
- Experience of reducing operational costs
- Experience of Tier 1 and Tier 2 Automotive supply to major OEM’s and managing customer relationships
- Experience of Plant start up highly desirable, product launch/transfer/ Green or Brown Field site development
- Competence with Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Excellent English language skills, written and verbal
- Must be able to travel to the UK, there will be an extensive training program in the UK that may require 8-10 weeks location in the UK plant
- Confident, strong man management skills
- Able to demonstrate career progression through Operations/Logistics/or Engineering functions
- Could be an existing Operations/Plant Manager
- Resilient character able to cope with the considerable demands of the role
- Able to form effective working relationships with other functions and peers
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
- Open and participative management style- able to develop / mentor a broad mix of competence/experience within the current Operations Team
