Knauf Insulation d.o.o. Slovenia seeks a new colleague in the position:

Mechanical Material Testing Engineer


Knauf Insulation is one of the leading insulation manufacturers with nearly 40 sites worldwide and more than 5000 employees.

We are looking for a new colleague who will join the R&D team, supporting the Knauf Insulation group worldwide

Job Purpose:

  • The ability to independently manage the mechanical and metallurgical testing laboratory
  • Metallurgical testing including sample preparation, testing, analysis and reporting
  • The person will be based in Slovenia (near the capital city Ljubljana)

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing test specimens for tests
  • Perform tensile tests
  • Perform creep and stress rupture tests
  • Perform hardness tests
  • Perform lab scale melting tests
  • Ability to independently follow a structured test program
  • Review of literature pertaining to alloy performance
  • Ability to contribute to the alloy development strategy
  • Design novel tests for R&D purpose

Ideal candidate for the job should have:

  • Physical Science/ Engineering based Degree (materials science/ metallurgy/ mechanical engineering)
  • Experience of a mechanical testing laboratory environment (e.g. graduate school laboratory)
  • Knowledge of measuring instrumentation (strain gauges)
  • Excellent statistical skills, ability to design experiments and analyse results
  • Good English language skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (technical reports)
  • Excellent presentation skills to others at all organisational levels
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office / statistical software / databases
  • Ability to meet deadlines / work under pressure / deal with changing priorities
  • Self-motivation, ability to work alone and within a team
  • Willingness/ability to travel e.g. plant trials and technical meetings (EU and worldwide) ~10% of time expected

Desirable:

  • Industrial experience, especially in mechanical test laboratory
  • Experience with project management
  • Advanced degree (Masters, Ph.D.)
  • Additional technical training/ certification (Six Sigma, equipment training etc.)
  • Knowledge/ experience of superalloy metallurgy
  • Knowledge/ experience of basic fabrication and metalworking techniques (lathes, band saws, joining etc.)
