Senior Quality engineer - PVT BIW

This is the opportunity in this role.
Reporting to the PVT Supervisor, as a PVT Lead Engineer you will be responsible for the quality of a significant section of the Body Engineering content of the car. This includes both the assembled product quality and overall customer experience. The systems included in Body Engineering are BIW, Handles Locks and Mechanisms, Exterior Trim and Interior Trim.
You will have the responsibility of being the engineering interface with manufacturing to diagnose issues, communicate engineering concept/intent and robustness and determine means of optimising the final product as part of the VRT (Variation Reduction Team) which is made up of Engineering, AME, CME and STA. In order to protect the next car of the production line you will have the responsibility of determining appropriate and robust containments should an issues arise.
As a PVT Lead Engineer you will also coordinate the VRT team, providing coaching on problem solving strategies, KPI and KPO management as well as day to day operational leadership to ensure every customer is completely satisfied with the quality of the engineered product.
You will need to track quality performance via a scorecard and be able to work cross functionally to drive teams to achieve clear objectives.
The role will include a period of training in the UK.

Main Responsibilities: (Outline at a high level the key outcomes of responsibilities for the Role. These should give the reader a clear view of the what the role will do e.g. what is done; to what area; with what outcomes, typically 6 to 10)

• Develop and deliver robust quality sufficiency plans to continuously improve quality. This will involve understanding key projects and delivering containments and corrective actions for external in internal quality issues as identified from key metrics including Warranty, Roadside Assistance and customer surveys.
• Support of core engineering related projects to resolution using a structured problem solving approach to derive the optimum solution.
• Lead work-streams with suppliers to develop solutions to customer and internal issues where processes can be improved and or engineering change is required to the product, managing the actions from customer symptom to containment and corrective action implementation. This includes tooling costing and feasibility assessments, manufacturing feasibility, engineering validation through line trails and testing, and overall business case justification.
• Implement alerts, in process containments & rework instructions as required to support product launch and production.
• Lead presentations as required to forums with varied levels of escalation up to and including director level.

• Support activities to engage with core product development body engineering teams, working to deliver final data judgement deliverables and ensuring lessons are robustly learnt from current models. This includes virtual build, prototype build, BoM validation, AIMS/release progress & review of key component commodity plans.
• Implement alerts, in process containments & rework instructions as required to support product launch and production.
• Support of launch activities during "in cycle" product model year changes and new models to ensure continuity of product knowledge and quality from the first customer car. Support problem solving & issue identification during pre-production builds

• English: written and spoken.
• Experience in a mass production engineering environment (Automotive preferred)
• Good communication skills & networking with PD functions, suppliers, plant & PVT is essential -

Knowledge of manufacturing plant processes

• A resilient character and a strong desire to deliver against targets under pressure.

To be flexible and supportive of colleagues

• User of structured problem solving (8D & DMAICR) processes, data analysis and statistical analysis, preferably six-sigma Green Belt.
• Previous experience of vehicle launch or PVT

High level of IT literacy Knowledge of JLR quality data systems, including AWS, PAWS, CQI*.

• Knowledge of systems such as WERS & AIMS*
• Degree level qualification in an Engineering discipline.
• Ability to anticipate future challenges and opportunities and respond accordingly.
